They’re toxic and horrible, end up in the bin, total waste and the parts are a danger around toddler siblings.

YABU - not all cheap plastic tat, loads of the same item for a decent price, way better value than supermarkets.

Also, parents these days are under pressure to give party bags to uninvited siblings/host whole class parties.

Golden rule- parent/s hosting gets to decide what they put in their party bags. As do you when you host. You can’t dictate others preferences/budgets. They are for the child anyway, not you.

TheNightingalesStarling · 19/10/2025 15:46

Isn't that just cheap plastic tat in general, not Temu?

guinnessguzzler · 19/10/2025 15:46

We used to give Playinchoc in party bags when our kids were little, if anyone is looking for ideas. There's probably lots more nice ideas out there now too.

Iguessicoulddothat · 19/10/2025 15:47

Its all tat, UK tat is probably temu tat that costs more as its got a longer supply chain.

Keep an eye on your toddlers

Tiebiter · 19/10/2025 15:49

Problem it's either tat or requires far too much parental involvement.

Ooh look some seeds to plant/wooden birdhouse to make/pottery to paint. Slow hand clap for the hours I now need to spend trying to facilitate this.

This. I think the onus is on you, the parent of the recieving child to have a look in the bag and decide what you dont want your kid having

I have never let mine have the small bouncy balls due to having a dog who would probably choke if she found one. I've never allowed Lolly's either so just used to take them out of the bag before etting in the car home

Buy a book or some seeds. Temu is awful

Oh, the completely made up ‘societal pressure’ strikes again. It’s a very poor excuse trotted out for so much crap. ‘Pressure’ like this only exists in your own head and only if you allow it. Don’t be a sheep! JUST DON’T DO IT.

Do you remember being a child? 😂 Let’s be honest, children love balloons/sweets/party blowers/tat. Soooo happy I was a kid when parents still had a sense of fun!

Summed it up perfectly.

Please don't buy seeds or random books.

I don’t. I name my party bags for party guests and refuse to give any to uninvited siblings. However, others have unfortunately been left short because of uninvited children snatching them, so have succumbed to pressure to buy more. Maybe they will stop buying cheap tat when entitled parents stop bringing the whole family/whinging if only a handful of the class are invited.

Haha I came on here to say urghhh better than a worthy book or bloody seeds 🤣

caringcarer · 19/10/2025 15:57

Temu sell some lovely wooden toys.

Genuinely? To be fair our had way less in, but we always went home with a slice of birthday cake in a napkin and a balloon?!

HelpMeUnpickThis · 19/10/2025 16:01

YABU

My party bag (a gift to your DC) does not create any responsibility from me towards your toddler siblings. That is on you.

Secondly, why don't you check / vet the bag yourself before you hand it over to your DC. If you have such stringent requirements just take out the things you don’t like.

Also my DC have loads of books - I dont want anymore. We live on a farm - I dont need any seeds whatsoever.

People are different. Just take the stuff you dont like and try to have some gratitude that a parent may have stayed up all night assembling these blasted party bags as a gift for your DC and to try to make the party fun.

Lilyhatesjaz · 19/10/2025 16:02

We always had a piece of cake and some bubble mixture. Expectations were low in the 70s😂

MinimumRage · 19/10/2025 16:02

I’m with you OP.

I’ve been both moms - the Temu tat peddler and the worthy book pusher - neither is appreciated, both are wasteful.

Slice of cake and a bag of Haribo does the trick.

TheNightingalesStarling · 19/10/2025 16:03

Uninflated balloons are choking hazards as well.

And don't put in sweets, the sugar police will be after you... maybe some carrot sticks with a mini tub of houmous?

EmmaOvary · 19/10/2025 16:05

Went to a kids’ party today where there was a book swap as the basis for party bags. Every child brought an unwanted book instead of a present and at the end each guest chose one. Great idea. The world is choking in plastic, we don’t need more. Not to mention that Temu uses child labour.

This.

What’s the difference between the tat on Temu, the tat in shops, and the tat on Amazon?

Likely all coming from the same tat manufacturers in China?

I imagine that’s what youve done yourself then? No party bag at all fir your dcs birthday parties??

Can you say how it went? Were the children there happy to go away empty handed? Did your dcs get comments afterwards?

IceBrownie · 19/10/2025 16:07

I understand the objections to Temu regarding working conditions and wages, but not about the actual product.

Their exact same products are sold on Amazon, supermarkets and even "lovely" local boutiques, at considerably inflated prices.

Slow hand clap for the hours I now need to spend trying to facilitate this

I think we would be friends irl.

OP I agree in terms of I would never trust any product from that site with young children so wouldn’t use them for party bags myself.

The problem is, as you can see from the comments on this thread you won’t win. Put a book in, don’t put a book in. Add plastic tat, don’t add plastic tat.

Personally, I go for a piece of cake and a couple of small toys. That’s trying to keep
costs down too. Recently, my daughter came out of a party with a bag full of sweets, literally 15 or 20 different sweets in her bag. I did do a silent groan. Better then Temu crap but still requires me as a parent to supervise and eek out the sugar over several days.
