AIBU? That Telling a Dog owner their Dog is fat and needs to lose weight for Health reasons is the same as telling a person they are overweight and need to lose weight for Health reasons? If a person says that about a Dog they are highly likely to think that of a person too? Or am I very unreasonable for thinking that? A Dog being overweight Is different to a person being overweight but I think if a person makes a point of a Dog being overweight needing to lose weight for Health they are very likely to judge an overweight person saying they need to lose weight for Health reasons? Am I wrong? Thankyou.

I’m not sure why you are making the correlation but I think the issue is that if a dog is overweight the blame is entirely on the shoulders of the owner. Too much food, not enough exercise. Dogs can’t open the cupboard to get their own food.
I say this as the owner of a slightly overweight pup.

No it’s not the same. It would be the same as telling a parent (away from their child’s hearing) that their child is overweight and needs to lose weight for health reasons. In the same way that dogs and children don’t control their own diets and are often reliant on an adult to decide how much access to exercise they get. (And dog owners and parents often are blinded by their love of their child/pet to see the weight.)

An adult human who is overweight knows they are and are in control of their own choices.

Allowing a dog to be overweight is a form of cruelty.

Why would anyone other than a vet feel it was anything other than rude to comment on someone else's dog's weight?
