Bad Evri Parcel Shop experience, WIBU to not use it again?

Our local Evri parcel shop used to be part of a newsagents. About two months ago it was taken over by someone else who is selling all sorts of scented products in there.

I went over this morning to drop off four parcels. The floor of the shop was covered in all of the dropped off parcels, being sorted through by the owner of the shop. She wasn't putting them in any sort of order and multiple customers who were there to pick up their parcels were leaving because it was just taking too long to get to them.

The owner's daughter, who can't be more than ten, was tasked with scanning in people's parcels to send, and dishing out the parcels that had been sorted through as ready to collect.

There was a child in a side room, who had a chair against the baby gate and was climbing over, running about in his pants and he kept whining for his mum. There was also a baby in a pram at the back of the shop that was crying, but not being attended to.

It's obvious this new owner is attempting to make a business for herself and I really respect that, but the entire thing was really off-putting. The shop stank of artificial scents (I'm partial to a bath bomb or a nice scented candle, but this was just really overpowering) and it's left me with a headache even a couple of hours later.

WIBU to just stop using it? I know this type of shop relies on the Evri side of thing, but it was just horrendous.

I’m really surprised at your question, in the uk we can use any shop we chose.

LemonJellyLegs · 18/10/2025 13:38

Lol!

Doesn't anyone think for themselves again??

Not sure what’s funny?

Because it's ridiculous that you feel you need to ask, why can't you make your own mind up?

brunettemic · 18/10/2025 13:55

Is this a serious question? Who do you ask what to do when you need a wee? What about if you need a drink….”I’m thirsty, AIBU to have a drink?”

Because it feels like quite a dickhead thing to do? It’s obviously a woman trying to make a living

If you want to support her business you’d be better off buying her actual products rather than dropping off Evri parcels. Shop owners get a tiny amount per parcel.

Of course you can use another evri drop off point. Maybe give this woman another chance in a few weeks when she may have managed to get on top of it all. Or maybe she’ll stop being a drop off point.

I don’t think any of that is particularly dickhead thing to do or think.

CatsorDogsrule · 18/10/2025 14:07

@SilenceInside is spot on.

I imagine the poor lady was also suffering from the overwhelming smell, but thought that better for her customers than whatever stench she was trying to cover up in the shop.

I'd try again another time if it is a convenient location for you, but you have the freedom to go elsewhere.

Her products are what stinks though. It’s all wax melts and bath products

I’m all for supporting small businesses, but only where they’re running a business I want to shop with. Prolonging the inevitable death of an unsustainably business is an unkindness all of itself in my view.

I’d go elsewhere if I didn’t enjoy the experience of any small business, it’s not my responsibility to give them money to do something they’re bad at.

Go elsewhere guilt free is my advice!

youalright · 18/10/2025 14:26

Is it alright if I go for a wee everyone please ✋️

SilenceInside · 18/10/2025 14:26

So, if you don’t like the smell of her products then go elsewhere. It’s not a dickhead thing to do. It’s just how retail works.

There's a saying that theres no such thing as a stupid question....

Congratulations you've proven there is.

WonderfulSmith · 18/10/2025 14:40

I’d worry about any parcel I sent through her actually getting where it was meant to. Go to someone else. You don’t owe her anything.

The shops earn like 20p per parcel, so I doubt they rely on it.

If her shop closes, it won’t be because of your 20p parcel money stopping.

mickandrorty · 18/10/2025 14:43

At the risk of sounding like an arsehole, I couldn't give a shit if someone is trying to make a business for themselves if the service is no good I'm not going to use it!
