People you meet once or similar but remember forever, for some reason

25 years ago I went on a holiday to Magaluf with five friends for a week. The usual sun, sea, and….. sangria 18-30 piss up.

Every morning (and by morning, I mean lunchtime) we’d get up and go to a local restaurant for “breakfast” - six breakfasts and six Coca-Colas every day.

The waiter was a middle aged Spanish guy and every day he made the same joke - at the end of the order he’d say “So that’s six breakfasts, six colas….” and then after starting to walk away he’d turn around and say “….and six bacardis”, laugh his head off, cheeky wink, and the disappear off to the kitchen.

For some reason, he has stuck in my head. I can still remember what he was wearing, what he looked like, exactly what he said. I met him all of three times but he’s stayed in my mind ever since.

I have actual friends from back then who I lost touch with who I can barely remember. But I’d know that waiter if I walked past him in the street today.

Anyone else experienced anything similar? Someone you met once or a small number of times but who sticks in your mind?

I do, but I can also pinpoint the reasons why. One was a man who had really lovely brown curly hair and big brown eyes with thick black lashes.

One was a concierge at a hotel in Toronto named Mohammed who have me a gift bag when I checked in. I said, "ooh, a gift bag!" And he said he was just trying to impress me and he winked.

One was a woman who was standing in line in front of me at a drugstore who was sobbing. I tapped her on the shoulder and asked her if she needed a hug. She said she did, and I hugged her. I never knew what was wrong with her, but I think I would definitely recognize her again.

Loads of people. One guy I only met about three times but we became friends over a month or so, then he passed away in tragic circumstances.

Plenty of others who were just very charismatic, or I clicked with, or just had an very unusual name or appearance!
