…to treat my life like one big performance?

Not in a bad way. I actually love performing - I’m in a theatre group and nothing gives me more joy than being on stage. But in my every day life I often imagine I’m being watched by someone. Who it is changes all the time - it could be my younger self or someone I know (and want to impress) like my boss or someone famous that I admire like JK Rowling!

I imagine this when I’m at work, when I’m with my kids, when I’m running, when I’m cooking in the kitchen (usually while dancing to music because you know, it’s one big performance).

I think I do it because when I feel like I’m being watched I do everything with a bit more energy and a bit more care. I’m just curious as to whether anyone else does this? Or am I just extremely weird?

Sometimes when I'm cooking I pretend I'm Delia Smith or Nigella and I'm presenting a cookery show. So I get what you mean.

That sounds great!!
I dont live my life or do things like someone is watching but I do get the "life is a performance"

Many many years ago I decided what type of person I wanted to be. I wanted to live in a certain kind of house live a certain kind of lifestyle do certain kinds of things and I just started acting and dressing like I lived that life.
Not too long later I moved to the area I wanted to live in and had the lifestyle for real that performance me pretended to have.
One particular day I was doing something and it was like "click" i am exactly the person i was pretending to be now. I performed it until I was my reality

I get its not completely the same as performing like you live in a reality tv show but its to show that performing at life is a choice and often brings joy however you do it!!

It might get weird if you start to leave gaps for applause but generally I can't see it doing any harm.

Oh my god, I always do this when I'm struggling to get motivated!!!!!! I thought I was just a total weirdo 🤣

YANBU. I sometimes narrate in my head when I'm cooking. And I perform at Zumba class like I'm in front of an audience, although with my 'abilities' thank God I'm not Grin

Well this is all very reassuring! I was half expecting to be told I need therapy. Which I probably do to be honest, but then I would 100% be performing life for my therapist…

🤣🤣

No the whole point is that they don’t know that I know that they’re watching me. So no applause breaks…
