To bloody love a bath

musicalfrog · 12/10/2025 17:22

It's my favourite leisure activity atm, even more than sleeping (which is usually my favourite).

I can lay back, relax in the hot water, listen to music or browse the web on my phone, read a book, have a glass of wine, take care of myself in a calm way eg shave, exfoliate, wash my hair (not all at once obvs 😆)

Best thing is, ALONE TIME, my kids are now old enough not to want to join me in the bath every single time! 🍾🍾🛁🛁

I love them.

Not as a method of getting clean but as a relaxation activity.

Mikart · 12/10/2025 21:34

I last had a bath anout 10 years ago. Loathe them.

Ywuw · 12/10/2025 21:42

Love a bath, I try and have one daily where possible, so relaxing and helps with my sore joints.

Abracadabra12345 · 12/10/2025 22:05

One of the first things I did when I retired was to have a daytime bath just because I could. It felt and feels gloriously decadent.

I love listening to my audiobook and lying back on my bath pillow. It’s especially soothing when my limbs are achey. On holiday in Europe with lots of hiking every day, I would have killed for a bath to take away all my aches and pains - standing under a shower didn’t help at all

My AS has inherited my love of baths too

LongTallSuzie · 12/10/2025 22:14

I adore a bath. I work in a very physical job and I literally look forward to coming home and sinking into a hot bath all through my shift!
I take my kindle with me or my phone, plus a nice cuppa and assorted bath snacks. It’s genuinely one of my happy places. Toe on the tap to keep topping the hot water up and a towel nearby to dab my sweaty head on. Nothing finer than a red hot bubble bath!

Financeisfun · 12/10/2025 22:28

I don't like baths. They make me sweat which then goes into the water making me feel dirtier than when I went in. It hurts my head to lean it back and its hard to hold a book high enough out if the water to read. I also get bored and fidgety.

Me too. I’m in process of viewing new flats and shocked how many don’t have a bath.

Its dealbreaker for me - I love a long hot soak on a cold evening

Flats are often lived in by old or young people. Baths don't work for old people as they are difficult to get in and out of, and young people are often shower and go.

FlexiSadie · 12/10/2025 22:42

Baths are my happy place too. I work 12hr shifts and my back is knackered - the bath is the only place where pain doesn't exist.

I know their stuff is like Marmite, but I love Lush products and it's the only stuff I have found that means I can have a regular bath without drying out my skin.

My (small) bathroom also has fifteen houseplants in it, which bring me a lot of joy.

DH made me a shelf specifically to house my mini rig (decent quality BT speakers) set up, so I either listen to an audio book or to music through that. I usually have candle lit and mood lighting too.

Baths also quite often involve wine!

jessiefletch · 12/10/2025 22:55

I love a bath. I know people say it’s less hygienic than a shower but honestly I never feel as squeaky clean from a shower as I do a good soak in the bath. A shower is ok when you’re rushing but a bath is just lovely. I can’t enjoy a glass of wine or read a book in the bath though, I just like to wallow.

It’s the tingly feeling when you get out that I love. Fresh pjs, a nice face mask, cosying up by the fire. Perfect.

sparkleghost · 12/10/2025 22:58

Same… except my DS is 2.5 and ALSO loves a bath. Which means when DH inevitably brings him upstairs to see me “because he asked for you”, DS inevitably ends up getting in and joining me or inevitably adding all sorts of stuff to the water complete with grim bits of fluff and crumbs. Delightful 😂

I still get to enjoy the occasional private bath when he’s with DM & DF for the weekend!

changedwoman123 · 12/10/2025 23:06

Oh my god yes but the worst thing is I never get out - I just top up with hot water and 3 hours can just pass by …..

ShyMaryEllen · 12/10/2025 23:16

I bathe most nights. It relaxes me before bed. A cast iron or Caronite bath doesn’t get cold for ages, and there are some lovely bath oils that make me smell good and soften skin. I lie there for a while in dim light- sometimes I read, or listen to music- sometimes I just switch off. Then I wash with stuff that matches the bath oil and wash my hair using a shower attachment.

We remodelled the bathroom over a year ago and I’ve never used the walk-in shower. My husband has never, AFAIK, had a bath, so it’s definitely a horses for courses thing.

Mandarinaduck · 12/10/2025 23:20

I love a bath and I have one every day. I don't have them very deep (even just a third or a half full is fine for me as long as it's hot) and I don't wallow, read, meditate, listen or watch anything, drink wine, burn candles or anything else. I just love being in the hot water. I wash with plain soap (no bubble bath or fancy products). and have a few minutes soaking, relaxing, and getting really hot, and get out after about 10 minutes. That's it. I have a walk-in shower too but that is for a functional wash when I'm in a hurry.

Yep this is me too, I am a 'just one more chapter ' kinda bather but it's always more like half a book .

DeanStockwelll · 14/10/2025 22:35

Me and my DB were discussing this at weekend , we both have fiber glass / plastic baths but I reckon if we had free standing copper / enamel baths we could put a couple of night light candles under the bath to keep the water warmer for longer.
I know it wouldn't heat the water but it should slow the cooling down a bit .

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/10/2025 22:42

I love a bath. I have one every morning before work. It's a whirlpool bath, so it's next level !

pumpkinscake · 14/10/2025 23:05

Although I enjoy an occasional bath, as I have a really small bathroom I got rid of mine and have never regretted it. I like a hotel stay to have the opportunity to have a bath. But I get bored quickly, so wouldn't stay more than 10 minutes if that in one. I'm in and out of the shower too. Just not into that whole pampering, self care stuff at all.

Xmasbaby11 · 14/10/2025 23:14

I love baths too, have one several times a week. I have a large free standing bath with a bath cushion and tray for all my bits and pieces. I read or go on mumsnet . Definitely my happy place!

Isn't it dangerous to fall sleep in the bath? Like couldn't you drown? Sometimes I feek sleepy and my eyes keep closing but im scared to fall in the bath so I get out

How on earth would you drown in a bath if you fell asleep Grin

You only need to cover your mouth and nose to drown, it doesn't take much water.

DiscoBeat · 15/10/2025 00:16

I love a bath for about two minutes. Then I want to get out and do something. I wish I liked relaxing in them more. It doesn't help that ours is enormous and I sink because my feet don't reach the end!

RampantIvy · 15/10/2025 06:33

I am really surprised at someone on Mumsnet advocating having a bath, as that would surely be up there with loo brushes on the height of unhygienicness?

Good grief. Baths are not unhygienic unless you are absolutely minging in the first place or work down a coal mine.

What is it with these mumsnetters who are so ridiculously fastidious that a bath is considered unhygienic? That is so OCD behaviour..

No , I'd have to have a bath about the size of a swimming pool and even then I don't think you could drowned, you'd wake up first.
Besides have you ever tried getting your head underwater in a bath , I need to have my feet and lower legs sticking out over the edge of the bath ( graceful it is not !) to even attempt to to wash my hair .

EBearhug · 15/10/2025 08:00

Not all baths are small.

You hope you'd wake up first.

Same here. Our bath is a normal sized bath, and I'm 5'7" and have to bend my kness when lying down in it.
