Will Trump get the Nobel peace prize if this deal comes off?

It’s apparently something he really wants. Do you think he will get it if he has got a lasting peace deal between Israel and Hamas?

A bit like how Hamas tried kidnapping more soldiers yesterday while simultaneously negotiating a hostage release deal? Stop pretending it's all one-sided.

And with regards to Trump, I absolutely despise him and think that all this does is prove that if he'd wanted to, he could have made it happen several months ago. He just didn't care enough. But still, I'd rather him win it a million times over than Greta Thunberg 😏

Great, so two sides with no intention of maintaining the peace deal.

Hamas are fucking murdering scum who also can't be trusted.

I loathe President Trump but I think he may and due to the recent prizes maybe deserve as much The worst thing that the Nobel committee did was give the prize to President Obama after a year in office. The citation on the website was

Barack H. Obama, the 44th President of the United States, had been in power for less than eight months when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009. Among the reasons it gave, the Nobel Committee lauded Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. Emphasis was also given to his support - in word and deed - for the vision of a world free from nuclear weapons.
Even before the election, Obama had advocated dialogue and cooperation across national, ethnic, religious and political dividing lines. As President, he called for a new start to relations between the Muslim world and the West based on common interests and mutual understanding and respect. In accordance with a promise he made during his election campaign, he set in motion a plan for the withdrawal of U.S. occupying forces from Iraq.
During his first year in power, President Obama showed himself to be a strong spokesman for human rights and democracy, and as a constructive supporter of the work being done to put effective measures in place to combat the climate crisis. This is in line with his appeal: “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges”.

On that basis potentially Trump should get the Prize.

The fact that he has been close with dictators, it is very unlikely to be a lasting peace and he has undermined security of Ukraine and pardons for people that tried to stop peaceful transfer of power would disqualify him for me.

Any peace in the middle-east will only ever be fleeting, there has been conflict there throughout history. But still, achieving even a temporary peace is an achievement. Sometimes you have to give the devil his due.

I really hope he doesn’t. It would make a mockery of the whole thing. The man is as peaceful as a rabid Rottweiler.

Would you be happier if he hadn't brokered a peace deal?

People hate Trump so much I think they actually would be happier if he’d failed to broker a deal.

I can only imagine how disappointed the marchers are going to be when they no longer have a reason to ‘protest’.

Timeforabitofpeace · 09/10/2025 23:03

You’d never be able to take Nobel seriously again.

Did I say that?

He’s talked some talk. I’ll believe there’s actual peace when/if there is actual peace.

Nobel invented Dynamite.

How? By sucking up to Putin, bullying Zelenskyy, having nice dinners with Netanyahu and lying about wars that he’s allegedly stopped?

Well quite, but it seems people are easily impressed.

ThatDreamyLemonBiscuit · 09/10/2025 23:12

The US could have stopped the conflict far earlier, if they wanted.

They are the sole member of the UN's (15-country) security counsel that has blocked a ceasefire resolution at every opportunity. Israel's government would not have proceeded as they did, for so long as they did, if they didnt have the US acting as their bodyguard vs the rest of the world.

Basically, all we've been waiting for is Trump to tell Netenyahu when to accept Hamas's surrender, and on what terms. This isn't a peace deal and there's nothing of substance to it.

All while the US seems to be gearing up for some sort of war with Venezuela.

He wont get the Nobel Prize but, if he did, it'd make a complete laughing stock of the award, forever more.

Hooohd · 09/10/2025 23:12

He did negotiate the India Pakistan ceasefire

No, he didn't.

larkstar · 09/10/2025 23:15

As I understand it, it's not possible because the submissions and events under consideration were by and up to January this year.

MoFadaCromulent · 09/10/2025 23:15

According to the one true reliable narrator... 👀

No, he didn't.

Well not just him. But him, Marco Rubio, JD Vance and the US State Department.

You’d never be able to take Nobel seriously again.

You’re at least fifty years too late with that, I’m afraid.

He probably barely makes it in to the top five most controversial Nobel winners, if indeed he wins. And if his peace deal for Palestine doesn’t last, he won’t be the first Nobel winner to be guilty of that either.

nhsmanagersanonymous · 09/10/2025 23:38

I strongly suspect he will. And actually if he cane make this work he deserves it astonishing as that is to say. It’s a big if though.

Is he any more deserving than, say, Netanyahu?

lljkk · 09/10/2025 22:17

how soon would we know if the deal was successful?
Tomorrow is definitely too early.

My guess is Israel-Gaza situation will reignite (=Israeli soldiers on the ground & Israelis targetting Hamas people physically present in Gaza strip with artillery) within 18months... maybe within 18 days. I submit that if the deal 'fails' within 18days, definitely not a deal worthy of Peace Prize. I doubt 18m duration is good enough, too.

It's not the first Middle East Peace deal and I doubt it will be the last, the problems move around. No peace deal can be judge before at least 5 years so hopefully he wont get the award he is begging for.

JudgeJ · 09/10/2025 23:48

Hooohd · 09/10/2025 23:23

And Pakistan. The US State Department helped.

He has claimed to have ended, I think, 7 wars, he's really trying to buy a gong.

"Trump's style is transactional," says Dr Samir Puri, director of the Centre for Global Governance and Security at Chatham House. "He tries to economically induce the different parties to stop fighting - but there's a huge difference between getting fighting to stop in the short-term and resolving the root causes of the conflict."

jonthebatiste · 09/10/2025 23:48

ANOTHER Trump-NPP thread?? Wtf is going on?! Has the administration paid people to spread the word for him? Is this one of those right-wing influencers coming into the UK as a Trojan horse for Farage?? Sheesh. Not even smart about it.
