To just take the job, but keep interviewing anyway

I’ve recently received a job offer- way below industry standard salary, very inflexible on every single thing. Lots of office time, no clear structure of bonuses etc etc.

I have been interviewing for a little while now and it’s not been easy. In the current climate.

if all their claims turn out to be true, I will do well and this will be a great move for me. If they don’t, then it’s not so great. I don’t want to turn it down, in case I can’t find anything else right now.

I know it’s a shitty thing to do, but the working conditions they’re offering are pretty shitty. The salary, is literally half of what I made last year. They have a generous, but unclear bonus structure which will apparently make up for it. Every thing they have said and done so far, falls so far below how any company I’ve ever worked for functions, that I honestly wouldn’t feel bad to leave them in a lurch, should their claims be complete lies.

It’s not usually my style but I’m just a bit worried I won’t get other offers. I know it’s unlikely but market conditions are tough. I’ve had quite a few let downs.

my plan is to accept and keep looking anyway. Best case, their claims are true. Worst case, I line up something else.

Totally reasonable. I’ve done this before. Let’s face it 99.9% of companies would drop you in a heartbeat if they needed to make refundancies etc ! Just do what you need to do you don’t owe them any loyalty

Perfectly acceptable.

Remember, in most workplace workers are disposable. That means employers should be disposable too.

Deeprug · 10/10/2025 02:02

How will you interview for other roles that come up? How will you explain it? But, yeah, look after number one.

NuffSaidSam · 10/10/2025 02:13

I think it's completely fine.

XWKD · 10/10/2025 02:18

You're not obliged to sign your life away. You might as well take it for now.

coxesorangepippin · 10/10/2025 02:42

If there's nothing else, yes take it and keep looking

Meadowfinch · 10/10/2025 03:02

Completely reasonable thing to do. If the company wants early loyalty from you, they need to earn it by paying decent wage & conditions.

mustytrusty · 10/10/2025 04:42

I would. If they’re salary etc is lacking they should
expect that people will move on to improve things for themselves. Most companies would shut in you from a height and it’s perfectly fair that they receive the same treatment back!

Look after number one. A fair days work for a fair days pay. You owe them nothing more
