Crap Birthday present from my sister to my son!

I have 2 sisters and between us we have 5 boys.
My son is the youngest and both my sister's have 2 boys each . One is a single parent like me and the other is married.
We have agreed between us to spend £20 on all presents for birthdays and Christmas.
My sister asked me what my son would like for his birthday.... today and I said organic cotton PJ's. My sister is always banging on about organic cotton so I expected a cosy pair of PJ's.
We had a party earlier...I supplied fizz, nibbles and lots of cake.
My sister gave my son a pair of Amazon cotton PJ's at £11.99!!!!
They are thin and a bit shit really...
I have swallowed this bug feel really pissed off and used!!!
Is this unreasonable???

Seriously? Why are you checking the cost of gifts? Say thank you and move on.

Uskie · 06/10/2025 21:17

I think you needed to be more specific re label / shop.

PevenseygirlQQ · 06/10/2025 21:18

Well they are cotton Pjs? Maybe she is tight for money this month. She got your son a present and was there to celebrate, perfect!

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 06/10/2025 21:19

They sound fine to me, it’s a bit petty to check the price.

defrazzled · 06/10/2025 21:19

I think it's very transactional to have fixed prices for gifts, I give what I think they'd like so can be £10-£25 depending on what I decide. I wouldn't check the cost of gifts we were given, again, it seems very transactional and not the point. She got you what you asked for, just say thanks and next time let her chose a present without expectations.

Arlanymor · 06/10/2025 21:20

Why did you look up the price? That's poor form. Does he like the pyjamas?

ladygindiva · 06/10/2025 21:20

She got what you asked for. Yabvvvu.

cariadlet · 06/10/2025 21:22

How old is your son? (little kids are often excited by new pyjamas; teens, less likely to be impressed).
Does he like his new pyjamas?

The price doesn't matter and it's a bit odd for you to check them out like that.

This, maybe you should just each biy for your own children

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 06/10/2025 21:22

She asked what he wants for his birthday. I find it very hard to believe that your son asked for organic cotton pyjamas for his birthday. Did he like the pyjamas? Are they themed according to his interests? Your son having a birthday present he enjoys is far more important than what it is made of or how much it costs. Are you sure he wouldn’t have preferred a toy? Did you even ask him?

Notmyreality · 06/10/2025 21:23

What a wasted effort of a post.

Jooleshop · 06/10/2025 21:24

Only because the quality was so poor...I couldn't believe my sister had spent £20 on such a poor quality item... Only to check and see they were cheap and not quality!

FuzzyWolf · 06/10/2025 21:24

Let’s be honest, he didn’t want organic cotton pyjamas at all.

Perhaps your sister bought them from somewhere other than Amazon and as a result it cost her more.

TomatoSandwiches · 06/10/2025 21:27

I can't believe you looked up how much they cost.

Grow up.

Algen · 06/10/2025 21:29

PJs are a bit of a crap birthday present for a child regardless of quality

steamingin · 06/10/2025 21:30

No way did your son ask for organic cotton pjs 😂 poor choice of gift to ask for and very poor form to look up how much they cost.

No young boy ever said they want organic cotton pyjamas for their birthday.

Enigma54 · 06/10/2025 21:32

Bloody hell, behave! DP once got a blank video cassette for Christmas, from his late uncle. The uncle had £500 000 in his bank when he died ( irrelevant I know!)

Enigma54 · 06/10/2025 21:33

Would you have preferred non organic PJ’s Op? 🙄

Netcurtainnelly · 06/10/2025 21:35

For heaven's sake. First world problems.
Just scrap the present buying and save your money if it's causing you so many problems.

Hankunamatata · 06/10/2025 21:36

But does your son like them? The design?

If you Google organic cotton pjs - amazon ones come up first, Hatley around that price. They look fine from picture.

They were within budget.

Im not sure what your issue is

This entirely!!!!

TheDandyLion · 06/10/2025 21:38

Where would you get organic quality cotton pjs for £20?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/10/2025 21:42

What everyone else is saying - are they a fun design that he’ll like?

I don’t think a practical present that basically just saves the parents money - like clothes for a small child - is really a great gift suggestion. I think your sis meant, what would he like, ie a toy.
