To be a bit gutted our photos are so bad?

I’ve recently lost 5 and a half stone and so when I saw someone promoting an outdoor photo shoot I decided to sign up.

Got the photos back and they just aren’t great. My DS really wasn’t playing ball and so they look really awkward and posed - opposite of what I wanted!

Just a whinge.

Can you post one as an example?

Snaplookout · 05/10/2025 20:40

Why would you need to see that?

To see if they’re actually as bad as you say, or if they’re nice but just not what you expected. It’s hard to advise whether you should just bin the photos, put them up as they’re nice, or ask the photographer for a refund if they’ve messed up the shoot.

Danioyellow · 05/10/2025 20:45

I wouldn’t expect anyone to actually post one though

DappledThings · 05/10/2025 20:45

I've never seen any photoshoot that pretended to be all natural and actually looked anything other than awkward and staged.

Yourlifeinyourhands · 05/10/2025 20:45

Well if your child was playing up then it isn’t their fault and they are posed so they’re going to look it! I hate photo shoots for this very reason!

SoReadyFor · 05/10/2025 21:03

Ask for reshoot?

I didn’t say it was their fault?

That's a shame OP. Really well done on the amazing weight loss. You must have really worked at that.

BlueberryLatte · 05/10/2025 21:07

Sorry op - that's annoying. But I think family shoots are often a bit pants! My dh has an awful one from when he was a teenager. One of those black and white smirk into the camera numbers. It's bad (but a little funny). At least your ds will have something to laugh at when he's older!

Bitzee · 05/10/2025 21:07

Doesn’t mean they can’t be lovely pictures of your family, I’m sure they still are, but those sort of photoshoots are never going to look like genuine candid moments. They always looked posed and a bit unnatural because that’s what they are.

Snaplookout · 05/10/2025 21:12

Haha yeah there are some nice ones of all of us just not all at the same time! And to be fair DS wasn’t playing up, just kept doing this forced smile which in all honesty looked a bit sinister and for some reason raising his arm in the air like he’s a member of the hitler youth.

There is a reddit subgroup (think it is r/photoshop) where you can post awful photos , the users do their thing with photoshop, and you can 'tip' the best one. They can work wonders -take a look at what they do....

MyElatedUmberFinch · 05/10/2025 21:21

I’m a member of a Facebook group where you can post a picture with the sinister smile and another member will ‘fix’ it.

I guess they knew there was a camera and the expectation is to pose. While it's an outdoor shoot, it's not normal to have a photographer around so they would have been conscious of this and wanting to smile for the camera.

Also are they an experienced photographer or someone just starting out? As there was a spell of lots of people advertising where I lived, offering cheap shoots and offers. The photos were pretty amatuer and it was generally mums looking to do something that they could do from home and working around childcare but they obviously had no proper training and had probably just been told by a relative they took a good photo.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 06/10/2025 08:29

Some photographers are just shit.. My mate spent ££ and her dd has a huge mass of snotty mucas under her nose on every picture..
I mean why not tell the dm to get a tissue?
*assuming dm hadn't seen and didn't actually want snot pics.....
