Nearly 500 arrested for support for Palestinian Action Group a proscribed terrorist organisation

NototerrorismIntheUK · 05/10/2025 09:16

This is getting ridiculous. The same group, think they can do what they want which includes, using a sledgehammer to attack a person, breaking into a military base and causing millions of pounds worth of damage. Hatred towards Jewish people.

It appears these people feel the law doesn't apply to them. None of the above is peaceful protest. Stronger sentences or fines are needed.

People are very divided on this (I support Israel), but the bottom line is the law must be followed by all of use, however strong our views. PA decided to do something many protest organisations would never do - broke into a miltary base (you can be lawfully shot on sight for doing that) cause masses of damage to the equipment that preserves our nation - they are now reaping what they sowed just as Hamas is reaping what it sowed from the kidnappings. It is as if no one has ever said no to them so they think our tolerant UK will let them do as they like but that is not so. PA is proscribed - if they don't like that they can (and are) try to use the courts to change it.

Separately there are the moral issues of who would choose to do a march so soon after the first terrorist killing in 30 years ( at the synagogue in Manchester )? It just sums up what they are like. Democracy and our capitalist system will prevail as it is the best system on the planet.

The sledge hammer was to break weapons, not people.

Shame the employees and police officers got in the way, eh. Wounding with intent just an accident?

And what about the whips and other 'homemade weapons'?

He should be arrested for hate speech but where does he say ‘beheaded’?

It’s bad enough as it is without you inventing more to it.

So you agree that there are issues with these marches and people are right to have concerns?

That some are violent thugs?

That some call for the death of Jews?

That some call for the annihilation of Israel?

That some call support for terrorists (the Houthis)?

And it isn't Israeli propaganda to want to discuss this?

Sallysails · 05/10/2025 11:43

I have been to a march and I didn’t see or hear anything anti semitic. It was very good natured and peaceful. I wouldn’t go to one now before they clean out the people who might be few, but are getting a lot of bad publicity. I want to protest the genocide and I want a free Palestine, but I don’t want to march next round people chanting anti Jewish things.

Thegreyhound · 05/10/2025 11:44

noblegiraffe · 05/10/2025 10:43

You said "As Netanyahu has admitted to using social media as a propaganda tool, I think there is definitely a concerted Israeli campaign."

So you don't think that that people posting on MN about these marches are Israeli bots and are actually genuine posters?

I think some people are and some people aren’t. I also suspect that some people posting against the genocide are in good faith and some are not. It’s naive to believe that social media is not a culture wars battleground that various groups have a stake in

BS, what these guys are doing is supporting a terrorist organisation. What Israel are doing is destroying a terrorist organisation. I don't understand why this isn't obvious.

Babies and children aren’t terrorists.

From the river to the sea?

Netanyahu says the same thing in his speeches.

I’m saying what I’ve said since the beginning of the thread:

I’m suspicious of posters with strong views but barely any posts to their name, sue me.

From the river to the sea?

Netanyahu says the same thing in his speeches.

And he shouldn't be saying it either.

But this was on the streets of the UK and you were asking for speeches that were hateful. This one was clearly calling for the eradication of Israel and a single Palestinian state.

People shouldn't have attended that march, right? If you abhor Netanyahu saying it, and I assume you do, then it is also a problem when pro-Palestinians are cheering along with it in Leeds.

Because wittering on about bots means you don't have to engage with real concerns?

I said people shouldn’t attend marches which have hate speeches. I didn’t say ‘give me speeches that were hateful’.

Why are you preaching to the converted?

User37482 · 05/10/2025 11:49

It reminds me of the “protests” on 8th October, Israel hadn’t lifted a finger, it was still counting it’s dead while rockets were flying in from Gaza and Lebanon. Those protests were actually celebrations. We have some truly disgusting people in the UK.

You specifically asked for links to problematic incidents at these marches.

Now you have been given them. Do you feel any differently about people's concerns, now that you actually know what they are talking about?

Well I posted a list of things to you about the marches and you went on about bots instead.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/10/2025 11:50

wonderstuff · 05/10/2025 10:25

I’m torn on this, it’s so distressing watching the footage from Gaza and I can sympathise with people feeling they want to do something. I don’t understand why we are arresting people who are peacefully protesting, but I do understand why people vandalising military equipment should expect to have harsh repercussions from the state.

That there’s so much hate of minorities in the UK is also very distressing, that Jewish people are feeling, well not just feeling are unsafe in the Uk is gut wrenchingly awful too. I feel there’s a concerted effort to divide us at the moment, that social media is so toxic and those toxic views and ideas are spilling out and the far right and far left are emboldened.

I don’t know what the answer is, I think some centrist leadership is lacking, but I really don’t think arresting 500 peaceful protesters is in anyway helpful. They want to be arrested, they want the spectacle, there’s no benefit to putting them through the already overwhelmed criminal justice system, police are being forced to use enormous amounts of resources. I think it was a knee jerk mistake to make them a proscribed terrorist group.

I agree.

noblegiraffe · 05/10/2025 11:52

They want to be arrested, they want the spectacle

Perhaps if more people called them out as despicable they might realise that they aren't actually the goodies they think people see them as.

noblegiraffe · 05/10/2025 11:54

There was a bloke turned up on my thread who had been arrested for supporting Palestine Action who thought that the planes they had vandalised were used for refueling Israeli bombers and was quite surprised to be told that that was impossible.

I mean, do your research before you get arrested or people might just think you're an idiot.

My positions remains thus:

I’m suspicious of the large numbers of posters starting threads with strong views with barely any posts to their name, especially in light of the NYT reporting Israel funding fake social media accounts.

I believe in the right to peaceful protest, although I would not have protested yesterday.

I abhor the rise and scale of anti-Semitism.

I hope you are also slightly better informed about the sorts of horrendous things that go on at these protests.

KTheGrey · 05/10/2025 10:56

Yes, because police won’t arrest the scary ones, because they are chicken imo. Probably because they are at risk if they do. Interesting times.

“Chicken”?
Grow up.
The swift action of the police in Heaton Park on Friday probably prevented many more deaths.
You should apologise.

stomachamelon · 05/10/2025 12:01

@PsychedelicPoetrysorry to burst your bubble but Unity Mitford was Diana Mitford’s sister not daughter. She also survived the shooting. She had an obsession with hitler. All the sisters were somewhat extreme in their passions if you know the Mitfords well and included a communist, socialist, Nazi sympathiser and socialite/ member of the aristocracy.

LakieLady · 05/10/2025 12:03

noblegiraffe · 05/10/2025 10:17

As I posted on my thread about how stupid these people being arrested for supporting Palestine Actions are (and good luck @nomas accusing me of being an Israeli bot) they were asked to pause their demonstration to free up police capacity to protect Jewish spaces in the immediate wake of a terrorist attack and they said no.

Their level of self-righteousness is off the charts.

Postponing was discussed at at least two PSC groups that I know of.

Because the demonstration had been organised well before the awful events in Manchester, all the necessary legal notices had been issued, transport and, in some cases, accommodation, had been booked and paid for, childcare arranged etc, the consensus was that it would be better to proceed as originally planned.

There was also a concern that people might not get the cancellation message and would turn up anyway, and there would be no marshals to keep a handle on things.
