Etiquette for birthday drinks

Hi
I wonder if I could have some advice.
Soon I'm celebrating a big birthday. Ive got a space in a pub and about 25 friends coming to have drinks.
I was happy for it to just be super casual, with people buying their own drinks and food from the bar. Then I attended my friends party last week and all food and drink way laid on (all night!)
I wasn't expecting that at all, but then it made me wonder (and panic) about my drinks...are people expecting that? Am I the one who had it wrong?
Thanks for any help you can give!

If someone invited me for birthday drinks, I’d expect to buy my own drinks and possibly buy the birthday girl or boy a drink as well.

I have been to one birthday party ever that was a private function (they hired out the entire pub), where food (sandwiches and sausage rolls and some crisps, plus brownies/cake) was provided, but we bought our own drinks.

I’d not ever expect anyone to provide me food or drink unless they invited me to their house. Even then, I’d bring a bottle to contribute.

I’ve never been to a birthday party out at a pub or restaurant where all food and drink was catered. I’m very middle class if that makes a difference (maybe it does 🤣), but just never been the done thing in our circles.

I wouldn’t expect food or drinks in this situation. I would expect food/ nibbles if it was an actual party with a separate room/ dj/ balloons etc but not just a table in a pub.
how did you phrase the invite- come to my party or I’m having drinks/ food down the pub. I reserved a table if you want to join me.

Birthday drinks in pub or a hired hall with a bar - I would expect to buy my own drinks.

At a house, I would expect to bring a bottle/whatever I drink.

I've been to a few parties recently where money has been behind the bar (enough to cover the first few drinks).

Food is always varied - so much so that I always eat before I go now!
