I'm currently sat in a and e and I have nothing to think about.

My husband said do you think and a e doctors and nurses treat more then one person of the same name each day.

Not just doctors or nurses but teachers, sales people. How many times a day see or treat someone with the same name

Please forgive me I am very bored. My son has fallen asleep while waiting to hear of max fax.

First and last name? I think it would be fairly rare!

Hope everything turns out OK in the end xxx

Depends on the name, common first names, combined with common surname, possibly.

That's true! I used to be a nurse before children and I think it only happened once in my placement.

Idontknownowwhat · 04/10/2025 00:27

I have a funny anecdote m, I have a fairly rare name, nothing spectacularly out there, just the combination is rare.
There are 2 women with my name in this country according to 192, and social media checks.

For the past 7 or 8 years, we have been making each others lives hard, although we've never met.

We have the same hair salon, same dentist, and the same butcher.

The worst was when I lost my credit card, and someone returned it to her, her and her husband were wanting to involve police and everything because of this fraud. She couldn't believe that there was someone else with her name so close by and my credit card company shared all the details when they said there was a fraud claim on my card, and I had to call and go through security.
Come to think of it. We probably belong to the same GP service even. I wonder how many people have seen us both really close in time.

Thank you that's really kind of you.

Ditto the good wishes. Same names: very infrequently but I have known it in the same day. In long-stay healthcare it can happen too, still infrequently. I've also known patients with the same name as a staff member, same name as a famous person, etc. There are procedures when it happens to prevent confusion and ensure patients are identified correctly.

CautiousLurker01 · 04/10/2025 00:30

On the basis there are 3 people with my name locally, 2 of us registered at the same GP practice and regularly having been given the others prescriptions at the village pharmacy (in the past, they now check addresses)… I’d say it can probably happen. I often get appointment reminders from an osteopath I went to once 8 years ago that are meant for one of them too. Bloody nightmare. One ran Music with Mummy and the other was the secretary at my son’s infant school so we were constantly telling people that, no, were were not THAT CautiousLurker…

A couple of decades ago I checked into a flight and the stewardess remarked that I was passenger number 3 with the same first and last name on the flight (classic first name, common surname)!

CautiousLurker01 · 04/10/2025 00:31

Ps hope your little one gets better soon!

Dpresst · 04/10/2025 00:31

I am a Singh. Last time I sat in A&E 7 different Singhs were called into Triage one after the other. I found that quite amusing ☺️ hope your son is ok.

Yes, which isn’t really a paradox imo just that the way probabilities work isn’t always intuitive. In a group of only 23 people, there is an over 50% chance that at least two individuals share the same birthday

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem

In real life, I work in a small team of people - at one point when there were no more than 10 of us, three shared the same birthday and it happened to be January 1st.

LancashireButterPie · 04/10/2025 00:45

I once had 3 patients open to me with a name like Mary Jones. They all had v similar presenting conditions and I had to re delegate them to a colleague to stop me mixing them up. I also saw a couple of Mr Lee's and Mr Chans with the same first names.

Hysterectomynext · 04/10/2025 00:47

Well I had to go to the doctor. A specialist nurse had to see me. He came into the waiting room called my name (first name only but quite an unusual name) and two of us stood up. Same name. Then he told me he’s absolutely baffled because earlier the same day the exact same thing happened with another two patients waiting for him. Mine is a name you don’t hear often. Nice guy he was. I’m much better now. I hope you’re being seen soon OP. Good luck!

StarCourt · 04/10/2025 00:50

I’ve never come across anybody with same first and last name with me it’s my birthday. I know 5 other people with the same birthday as me.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 04/10/2025 00:51

My great niece works with someone with exactly the same name as her (first, middle and last) and there are only 5 people in their workplace.

Hysterectomynext · 04/10/2025 00:52

Oh and I completely forgot- as my username suggests I recently had surgery. When I was booking in there was confusion because another patient with the same name as me was waiting for the same surgery. I had them check its really was someone else and it was true. Different birthdate and address and same first name and surname as me. I’m not exaggerating when I say this- in all my life I have never met anyone with the same surname as me. And with my first name I’ve only met a handful. And yet there’s someone else probably living not too far. Waiting for same surgery at the same hospital. The admin staff couldn’t believe it

Oh goodness, exactly the same here! I have quite a common April birthday it would seem 😳

The only time I've ever 'seen' someone with the same first and last name as me, was the opening credits of a film.

It was written on a gravestone 😱

Dh and I looked at each other and reached for the remote control at the same time!

MollyButton · 04/10/2025 00:58

Depends on the name. In my year in school and the one above there were girls with the same first and last name. My Ex had such a common name that several places worked there was another employee with the same names and he got their emails sometimes.
My son once got confused with another employee and got scheduled for work in a store 100 miles away.

dizzydizzydizzy · 04/10/2025 01:07

I have a very common name - think Jane Smith.

A few years ago; I was at the fracture clinic. I saw the consultant and a junior doctor. As I was walking out through the door, one of them said to the other "we haven't seen Jane Smith yet". I indignantly turned round and said "yes you have! I'm Jane Smith." They laughed and said "oh no, there is another Jane Smirh. She is about 30 years older than you."

I continued on my way, wondering if they were telling the truth or if they were very quick with making up tall tales.

At my next appointment, a few weeks later, I asked the consultant if he had 2 of us Jane Smiths on his books and he assured me he did! I told him I had been wondering if he had simply made up a story to look less embarrassing.

A couple of years later, I was talking to a friend, who started telling me what a coincidence it was because his parents' next door neighbour was called Jane Smitb. And yes, it was the same woman from the fracture clinic.

I’ve never come across anybody with same first and last name with me it’s my birthday. I know 5 other people with the same birthday as me.

I have met another woman with the same first and last name as me.

in one road I lived in back in the 90s, there was a woman a few doors down with exactly the same name as me. I never met her but I was always getting her post.

The other week, I went to the chemist to collect my prescriptions and they handed over the prescriptions of another woman women with my name (for some reason they didn't ask my address- but luckily I noticed it be error straight away).

I used to work in a leisure centre. The woman of the same name who I mentioned in my PP and who was at the fracture clinic on the same day as me, was on our membership database (as were all the staff, including me). So every time somebody needed to look me up on the system, there was always some confusion.

Icreatedausernameyippee · 04/10/2025 01:20

The Gaming Doctor did a TikTok about this recently. They had a "David Smith" or something similar x 2 in and everyone panicked. I believe he's from Pakistan originally... He said Mohammed Ali was the name of every patrient 😂

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 04/10/2025 01:33

Im not sure about the name
But i have seen a cctv video of someone who is literally me but wasnt
Amd also saw a picture in a local nightclub of a male who looks so much like me we could be twins !

k1233 · 04/10/2025 01:38

Ok, a wierd one that happened to me with someone I work with. Details changed

Work colleague (WC) was talking about her kids playing at someone's place - Wendy Bligh.

Me - how funny, my best friend is Wendy Bligh. She lives at suburb name.

WC- wow so does my Wendy.

Me - my Wendy lives off major road

WC - so does my Wendy

Me - my Wendy lives on This street

WC - so does my Wendy!

Me - ??? My Wendy is married to Bob

WC - so is my Wendy

Me - 🤔 my wendy has llamas

WC - I wouldn't know, I haven't been outside when I pick the kids up

Me - well, I'm pretty sure my Wendy doesn't hide the kids Flowers in the Attic style when I visit - I'm going to have to ask!

I ask my Wendy and yes, her neighbours a couple of doors up are Bob and Wendy Bligh

Guytheskiinstructor · 04/10/2025 01:42

Two boys in our local sports club, same rare first name, same unusual surname, both brilliant athletes, always neck and neck.

One has just moved to next town over so the pressure’s off a bit.

On a medical note, there are so many Margarets in Scotland that doctors
tend to just write Mgt.

Hope all well in A&E and it’s not too long a night for you.

SixSeven · 04/10/2025 01:44

I have fairly unusual first and last names and I’d never met anyone else with either name until I met someone with both. I checked the birth registry and there are only 3 of us in the whole country, so it’s amazing that I randomly met one.
