It’s a war with two sides.

Do you believe that there is no one in Israel that praises the actions of the Israeli government? Their state sanctioned form of cruelty and killing is far worse and on a much bigger scale than anything that happened on October 7th.

I don’t think anything could be worse than the sickening atrocities that hamas carried out on October 7th, particularly to women and babies/children. It’s the stuff of nightmares.

Sanctuary from wars our allies and our politics created you mean?

People attempting to justify terrorism and mass murder in the U.K. on social media should at the very least have their universal credit withdrawn permanently

What it represents to Muslims is not the same as it represents to none Muslims. The name is a virtue name really, similar to Christian’s calling their child Immaculate or Charity.

I accept a word can have more than one meaning but please don't pretend that "struggle" can't and doesn't mean holy war to some people.

The hate bating on this thread is something else.

Yes something awful has happened, but stirring up hatred won’t help a community come together.

Hatred is already here .

He is a surgeon.

He should be sacked from the NHS/whoever? for his public support of Hamas's attack on Israel.

You have to wonder if his treatment depended on your religion . I wouldn’t want to be Jewish with him as my Dr .

So the general consensus on this thread is add oil to fire to increase the flames or extinguish the flames?

Makes no difference. We took them in, gave them refuge and the father turns out to be a Hamas supporter and his son an actual terrorist. That's what we got in return

Well appeasement and bending over backwards hasn’t worked. We don’t have to live like this.

We're a liberal democracy. We're incapable of doing that.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/10/2025 17:54

How many Catholics have you spoken to, then, @JustSawJohnny?

I have close catholic friends and family members by marriage. My Dad's side of the family was Irish catholic on my Grandma's side.

I have lived with 3 Italians and found them to be incredibly defensive on the matter.

I also have close Muslim friends and have lived in high population Muslim areas, taught in schools with a lot of Muslim kids etc.

So yes, I get to have an opinion, same as you.

It’s not over. I think it’s clear change is coming.

jeremyclarksonsthirdnipple · 03/10/2025 19:02

What a son this father had ..yesterdays attack plus said son being on bail for a rape allegation. Our country does not need this type of shit inhabiting it period.

The lesson neoliberals don’t want to hear nor learn is these people come here and instead of changing their beliefs, they import their beliefs and culture and teach their kids the same. The idea that somehow they will integrate and realise that our way of living is somehow “better” is downright stupid. Unfortunately a lot of politicians still believe it. Certainly many mumsnet users believe it. Guess we will learn the hard way.

Encyclopedia Britannica on the word 'jihad':

"Jihad, in Islam, a meritorious struggle or effort. The exact meaning of the term jihād depends on context; it has often been erroneously translated in the West as “holy war.” Jihad, particularly in the religious and ethical realm, primarily refers to the human struggle to promote what is right and to prevent what is wrong."

Edited

And you or certain that his choice of name was entirely innocent given his comments post October 7th. You seem to me to have a rather blinkered view of the situation.

Surely not to do this.

Exactly.

Proven time and again

My family are Muslim. We came here because my father loves the west and UK in particular - the music, the fashion (it was the 70s and the UK was v cool), and of course the political and religious freedom. Religion did not dominate in our house and my brother and I are both atheists. I believe we have contributed to the UK and I believe the majority of people in the UK have no issue with us being here.

somewhere along the way people who hate the west and have no intention of integrating and actually wish us harm were allowed in with no reservations and we need to have a conversation about that before it tears our society apart.

Definitely a bit of norminative determinism going on methinks.

It’s hardly surprising is it, terrorists aren’t created in a vacuum.

agree, he should be deported. We need to be much much tougher on the terrorists and their enablers in our society. Anyone on a M15 watch list who has dual citizenship or not born here should be removed.

We have ex-Hamas members living here currently, helping organise the Palestine marches since 7 Oct. It's insanity.

Why aren’t they just all being deported? If there are legal barriers then rush through emergency legislation. The government will look strong, it would be incredibly popular, I don’t understand why they aren’t rolling their sleeves up and getting on with it?

Yep. Muhammad Suwalha is a former Hamas chief, organised the Armistice Day hate march, has six children and lives in a London council house.
