Identity of Manchester victims

I have a family member who is Jewish in Manchester and spends a lot of time at the synagogue. Due to family circumstances we are not in touch, but we have never fallen out IYSWIM.
Does anyone think the names of the victims will be released, or if I rang the police with his name they would tell me if he is safe?

They will release the names in time, but one would hope not until the families have been informed and had time to inform other loved ones.
If that isn't you, then you need to wait.

moresoup · 02/10/2025 23:50

I dont know the answer, but I am so sorry, what an awful worry.
I can't see there is any harm in calling the police and explaining. The worst case is you don't know anything new.

MidlandsGal1 · 02/10/2025 23:52

They’ll release that information when ready.

You could try calling 101, explain you’re trying to find out if a family member is safe because you can’t contact them. They might ask for your family members details and might get back to you. I imagine if your family member was involved, you’d know already

FaceBothered · 02/10/2025 23:55

Is no-one else in your family in touch with them?

kateclarke · 02/10/2025 23:58

@FaceBothered No, it's my sister. We were split up as children during a divorce. Her mum has now died and there's no other point of contact.

OP - I don't think any names have been released, but I have seen it confirmed that the two victims are men. I hope this eases your mind a little.
Three others are in hospital (it doesn't give any further details).
Such a horrific attack - I'm so sorry you have this worry. What an awful time.

Deebee90 · 03/10/2025 00:08

im Local and also have friends from the community and it’s been reported that it’s all men that were attacked. 2 have died and 3 are injured. But if it makes you feel at ease ring the police .

kateclarke · 03/10/2025 00:10

I do understand that they are men, but she has a husband and 5 adult sons so am still concerned.

I am sorry, what a worry. I hope
your family are okay. Are none of them on any social media platforms? I doubt the police will tel you much until close family members have been informed, but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Ah apologies I thought it was just your sister you were worried about. I hope you get the answers you need. In this circumstance I think you should call or text or email your sister. She’d understand despite you falling out why you care.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/10/2025 00:48

I’m so sorry you’re going through this worry OP.

Must be incredibly difficult.

I’m so sorry for everyone affected by this.

Longingdreamer · 03/10/2025 00:49

I know the names of the victims. If your message me the names of the family members I can hopefully provide reassurance.

Would you be able to contact the synagogue and give them your sister’s name to check her family wasn’t affected?

Hope they’re ok.

I would be very wary of giving out names in case they get into the press before the families are told.

I say this because a friend of mine found out his brother had died on facebook before he was told. It was so awful.

I said I wouldn't give the names out, but if the OP messages me her family names I can provide reassurance that is was not them.

The family and community are all aware of who the deceased are. I agree that must have been horrific, but I am not giving out names.

Sorry I misread that is a really good way of doing it.
