Manager spelling name wrong online

Started a fantastic job recently and feel very lucky to have this job after a long and hard job search. All great minus my new manager spelling my name wrong.

My name is Katie yet on every teams message and email he’s putting ‘Katy’ and it’s driving me absolutely mad. I don’t understand how he keeps making the mistake when it’s written on the page!

Don’t know how to nicely say anything as I particularly want to keep my probation period very positive. How would you address this?

Just tell them I spell my name with an 'IE'.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 02/10/2025 11:40

Just tell him...

Rockclimber405 · 02/10/2025 11:53

I know tell him but I don’t know how to not awkwardly phrase it. My name is literally right there it’s not like he’s having to guess how to spell it

Dear Fred. Thant you for your message of xx. I’ll have the work done by yy. Just to let you know for the future, I spell my name with an -ie, not a y.

Rockclimber405 · 02/10/2025 12:04

Ok thanks, I think probably overthinking it as I’m very conscious about getting people’s name right as I think it’s respectful

It's so weird when people do this. It doesn't take much effort to check the spelling, does it? I think it shows a lack of intelligence unfortunately. I'd mention it in a light way but don't be surprised when he keeps doing it

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 02/10/2025 19:05

You are massively overthinking

Seriously

"Hi, my name is spelt Katy online but I spell it Katie. Can this be corrected please?"

Why are people so scared of basic tasks?

Address it "Dear Freed," or similar. 🙃

Don’t do that…..!

He might be dyslexic, in which case he'll probably continue to misspell. Just a thought before speaking to him.

OP, learning to communicate about a minor issue in a straightforward and professional way will be much more important to your career than being a people-pleaser to your manager, who will almost certainly not take any offence at all.
