My lovely wife will be 60 soon and I'm stumped on what to get her as a gift or gifts. Travel, meals, chocolate are sorted. Don't want suggestions on jewellery but I want something physical
Budget doesn't matter, I can get 1 big thing or several smaller. Can you help me out please?

ask her what she’d like but make sure you get a fabulous surprise too. What is her birthstone? What about some beautiful earrings or a special watch? Or take her somewhere to stay really lovely with a dinner somewhere she’s always wanted to go?

He specifically said no jewellery

luckylavender · 02/10/2025 10:55

How about a personal shopper day & voucher from somewhere like John Lewis?

kelsaecobbles · 02/10/2025 10:57

I’d like

a new pair of walking boots form altberg
a trip to see the puffins next may… or some puffin mugs or tea towels
a ticket for robert plant concert .. or the latest cd
the latest strike book

xOlive · 02/10/2025 11:01

If budget isn’t an issue, a new car?
Designer “wow” handbag?
An amazing trip for winter?
A luxury spa weekend away?
It depends what she likes/does/hobbies.
Does she want things, material items she might have always wanted but never justified buying herself or does she want a big huge family weekend away?
Honestly I’d ask her.
If she says she wants a surprise, say “okay, what is the absolute worst thing I could buy you?” to give you an idea of what to stay clear of.

kelsaecobbles · 02/10/2025 11:03

You have to ask or give more info - I would hate a new car, wow handbags, spa weekend etc

Indianajet · 02/10/2025 11:08

For my 70th my family bought me a giant African land Snail 🐌. Not much help to you, but is shows how different we all are!

Or, my DH arranged a lovely meal in London ( where 2 out of three of our children live) and organised all three, their partners, my mother, sister and BIL. All accommodation sorted, it was so lovely. ( Not a complete surprise. As i hate surprises, but he'd arranged everything, then told me about a month before).

The OP says that travel and meals are sorted.

@Lostwithoutatracey
Just ask her. At least for an idea if not for specifics.

That would be divorce in my house …

gingercat02 · 02/10/2025 11:11

For my 50th I got jewellery, a weekend in Edinburgh, theatre tickets, meals out and a weekend at the British Grand Prix. So all of the things you have sorted or discounted

Mangolover123 · 02/10/2025 11:12

Just turned 60 here, I would say I am a modern career woman and this is what I would like:
Fabulous handbag -Polene or Demillier are lovely mid-range
Beautiful Coat and leather boots (Reiss or something similar)
Cashmere jumper
Silk Hermes scarf
Fabulous indulgent PJ's
Chanel Perfume (or anything that smells divine)
Champagne
Piece of Art commission especially for me or a portrait.
Dinner at a Michelin star restaurant a deux

luckylavender · 02/10/2025 11:26

@EscapadeVelocity- we’re all different. I had a suite at the Waldorf Astoria for my 40th. Hated it.

We are indeed all different. But why did you hate it?

ToffeePennie · 02/10/2025 12:19

we got a necklace that the birthday girl had lusted after for a long time. It cost a lot, so we all chipped in.
she also had 60 gifts, each representing an important aspect of her personality or the history of the giver. So for example she was given a hand made blanket from the lady who made her first child’s blanket in her favourite colours but same design. Her grandchildren made button flowers and presented a bunch to her, her favourite “flowers” handmade by her favourite little people are very special. Could you do something similar?

Eyesopenwideawake · 02/10/2025 12:22

I went indoor skydiving for my 60th. It was brilliant!

(picture is pre flight, obvs!)

@thecatneuterer- it was really stuck up, stuffy

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 02/10/2025 12:45

Things I have been bought in the past or would like (I'm not 60 though):

My husband got a photo book made with tonnes of photos in it from my whole life, many of which I hadn't seen before as they were my sisters or other relatives, it was amazing and moving and I loved it

He also hired a Michelin starred chef to cook for me and dh at home with wines chosen by a professional sommelier

For dh's 50th birthday I curated a list of 50 of his favourite films and booked a suite in a 5 star hotel with a private cinema, he chose which one to watch and we watched it it, just the 2 of us, with Champagne and mini burgers, canapes and popcorn

Things I would like:

A chauffeur driven limo to collect and take us to Eurostar where we'd go first class to Paris or Amsterdam, checking into either Le Crillon in Paris or The Pulitzer in Amsterdam. Michelin starred restaurants booked in either city plus art gallery tickets in Paris, canal tours in Amsterdam.

A flight to Venice, staying in The Cipriani, Gritti Palace or Ca Da Dio. Gondola trips, water taxis and art exhibitions all arranged and booked, ideally at quiet times or private views.

A commissioned painting of my children by an artist I love

A luxury train journey through Europe, sleepers with stops to see several cities, 5 star hotels in each city plus restaurants, galleries etc as above

A tour of either the Champagne region or one of the wine regions in France. Reims, Burgundy or Bordeaux. Usual five star and limo requirements as above!

I have expensive tastes!

EscapadeVelocity · 02/10/2025 13:05

And the OP has already said that the travel element of the birthday has been arranged …

kelsaecobbles · 02/10/2025 13:19

Perhaps the fact you can’t think of what physical thing to get actually reflects the person she is - not that bothered about physical stuff? In which case - don’t bother to satisfy yourself

Shetlands · 02/10/2025 13:27

If the travel thing is already covered then I'd suggest a commissioned piece of art. My family clubbed together for my 60th and commissioned a painting for me by an artist I admire. It includes references to my and my life!

Theyreeatingthedogs · 02/10/2025 13:35

Is Sallimoservice a typo?

ohtowinthelottery · 02/10/2025 15:35

My DH got me a voucher for 4 paddleboarding lessons with a local instructor for my 60th birthday.

PrunellaModularis · 02/10/2025 15:45

Oh god no ...

EscapadeVelocity · 02/10/2025 15:45

@EmpressaurusKitty - from what I can see it’s a stealth advert … AI written, too.
