Is fatphobia a real thing?

Having watched the Panorama documentary on the Met Police and the police officer making rude comments about a fat woman and how "she was so fat she had two pussies", I'm wondering how much hate and disgust most people truly have against fat people? I'm not excusing it and saying it's not dangerous for your health to be overweight or obese, but surely being rude and ignorant isn't the answer?

Cravings and appetite are proven to vary from person to person, based on a multitude of factors. I don’t know what you mean by “response to food”, if you mean enjoyment certainly some people enjoy food more than others, if you mean do metabolic rates vary significantly amongst people of same height/weight/sex the scientific answer is no.

that doesn’t change the fact that WLIs make you less hungry and that is why they are successful. I’m not sure why you’re arguing otherwise.

Everyone is pushing back at you as your first comment on stopping hunger was very simplistic, you also smugly announced you and your mates weren’t impressed, giving the impression you feel people losing weight isn’t about health or personal appearance but bizzarely impressing other people, and then also declared that effectively we got fat due to lack of discipline.

ive never met anyone who feels losing weight isn’t about impressing people with the effort, and quite frankly find the idea laughable.

The one thing about this is that you can weed out the people (making comments /being rude etc) that are dicks.

Never comment on people's appearance unless asked was what my Mum always taught me.

I'm making the point that in our ordinary state (ie without weight loss jabs) we will all vary in our appetite and cravings. By response to food I mean how full we feel after eating. Therefore you could have someone slim who has a small appetite and feels full quickly...and a person who is slightly overweight but has a very large appetite and doesn't feel full after eating a normal amount. The latter person may actually have more self discipline than the slimmer person....they are starting at different points though.

honwstky what on earth are you talking about? For someone who maintains they’re not angry and my option doesn’t matter you sure are imbuing a lot of meaning into things I have said and indeed many I haven't.

”Everyone” is not pushing back on me. You are trying to argue that WLIs don’t make you less hungry which they patently do. And yes of course my post was simplistic this is MN not a peer reviewed journal. But whether you say feel fuller for longer or feel less hungry they are the same thing.

I haven’t said anything about me and my mates being impressed - that seems to be a figment of your imagination, 🤷‍♀️

I do however think most people get fat because of ill discipline - It’s why I’m a dress size bigger than I ought to be - it’s hardly controversial to acknowledge that people eat too much because it’s easier to say yes to a KitKat than no.

That’s true, and make an educated guess as to what’s behind it too. Always says more than they wish people to know.

Do you mean this thread or in real life?

It’s so interesting to me that the insults and attacks are quite clearly going one way and they’re directed at the posters making factual statements about how obesity kills and considerably lowers your quality of life not at the posters talking about how slim people are smug dicks with ugly attitudes 🤷‍♀️

I’ve noticed that now I’m obese, people treat me very differently. They look down on me and clearly make assumptions.

Yes, same- people are also just routinely rude (e.g. shoving past me whilst walking (I'm a runner and just as fast when walking as anyone else!) and I often see micro-expressions of disgust from people too.
