I bought a children's crzy golf set from a car boot sale a couple of weeks ago; i asked the lady if it was a complete set and she said yes. i paid my £1.50 and took it home. on getting it out of the box today, one of the clubs is all taped together and the other is snapped. dd was so excited but is now . i am that i have paid to put them in the rubbish for her.
AIBU?

NBU as such but when buying at a carboot you should open the box and look first... was the set complete?.... if so she wasn't really lying...

Ripeberry · 03/06/2008 17:40

I always check anything i buy at a car boot sale as they are all liars!

BibiThree · 03/06/2008 17:40

Nope, YANBU i'd be annoyed too. Bl**dy cheek of selling broken things. Done a few boot sales myself and would never sell anything broken!

glaskham · 03/06/2008 17:43

but not everyone at a carboot is honest and trustworthy!!! I've done boot sales in the past and would never sell anything broken.... but i still check what i'm buying off others!!

olivo · 03/06/2008 17:54

i didn't check the box, it was taped up. i've done some boot sales myself and wouldn't dream of selling something broken. i s'pose it was my own stupid fault for not checking. was so excited that i'd managed to get dd a fab elc plane for £1!
can you tell i'm a car boot novice? don;t think i'll be going back....

yes yaubu. IME people get rid of their crap at boot sales so it whould come as no surprise if something is sub standard.

olivo · 03/06/2008 18:00

i'm naive, i thought car boot sales were for things you didnt want and crap went to the jumble sale!

Personally, if something is taped up and you can't have a look inside to check it's intact, I wouldn't touch it. There are a lot of rogues at car boots.

bluefox · 03/06/2008 18:39

You pay your money and take your chance. Personally, I dont spend more on anything at car boot sales that I cant afford to lose. Had a few 'mistakes'. Put it down to experience.

zippitippitoes · 03/06/2008 18:40

well buyer beware of crap i think

i would have said can i look if the answer is no then forget it

olivo · 03/06/2008 18:48
