Interesting that a recent channel 4 news segment was about a new wave of " auditors " i have been watching them for about five years, so not new. I know the uk was late to the party ,as first ammendment auditors across the pond have been around for about 10. Just wondered anyone on here watches...and who they watch ??
AIBU = Never heard of them
YANBU = watch them, I know who they are.

People getting in the way ??

The fact that you've asked these questions suggest that you are watching very different stuff than I imagined auditors were doing.

it's bad enough that film crews are allowed to go around with paramedics and stuff.

One of many reasons we need a privacy law IMHO

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 30/09/2025 20:03

Photographing phossy jaw in match girls is totally different from filming ambulance, police or prison staff going about their day. I suspect if those people had actually been trying to barge into Bryant & May's factory to photograph the match girls at their shoddy work benches, they'd have got pretty short shrift. As it is, they filmed me and my colleagues at our place of work (NOT a public place) and posted it online without our consent.

Shudahaddogs · 30/09/2025 20:05

EmeraldRoulette · 30/09/2025 19:55

@Shudahaddogs you are correct, currently there is absolutely no privacy law

I do think there should be one. Otherwise there is nothing to stop anyone just filming somebody in the supermarket, on a train etc just because they fancied it. Not because some kind of incident was occurring.

There must be a point where you feel it escalates into harassment?

I'm still not 100% clear what you're watching, but it sounds like you aren't watching videos of people being harassed, basically. Which is obviously good.

What else are these people "auditing"?

Incorrect. A supermarket is private property. Whilst they can film you( under GDRR,) if they ask you to stop filming and you don't , they can ask you to leave. Filming in public, on a public street, paid for by the public. No laws. Anyone who wants to make laws to infringe on these rights needs a head wobble. What next which direction I can walk ?

Ambulance, Police are paid for by the tax payers. Of course we should film them. Why not? They have nothing to hide ?

As in channel 5 traffic cops ?? Yeah I think this kind of TV is ego driven and does nothing for police.

Because they’re dealing with people’s lives, sensitive situations, because their recordings and subsequent sharing on YouTube might interfere with the course of justice, because people who have been assaulted / made an attempt on their life / have been hit by a bus deserve privacy.

This is a perfect example of ‘just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should’.

I wonder what’s wrong people people that they just don’t seem to have any humanity and just want to cause an argument for the sake of it. Are they just bored or is something clinical going on

Now auditors are ambulance chasers? No that's vloggers. Completely different.

This is a weird coincidence! We had one at work today. What they don't realise is, if they are watching us, we are watching them.

As far as I'm aware, they come on to property which is not public try to start fights with people, film it, and then put it up to show how oppressed they are? Not sure of the social value of that but I suppose it's good propaganda for when reform take over and we have no social protection at all.

CoffeeCup14 · 30/09/2025 20:22

I think citizen journalism has been absolutely game-changing - thinking about the murder of George Floyd, and so many other situations where evidence can be provided as it happens or uncensored.

However, there can also be problems - professional journalists have editors, ethics (when they stick to them), legal accountability. Random youtubers don't consider whether sharing something is in the public interest, generally.

GlastoNinja · 30/09/2025 20:23

The ones that popped up on my tik tok called themselves auditors. They were trying to video someone receiving treatment after a fall from a bridge (supposedly to record the ambulance crew doing their job and giving it the whole ‘this is a public place’ bollocks).

Sounds pretty similar to me

Shudahaddogs · 30/09/2025 20:26

GenuineWorkOfFart · 30/09/2025 18:43

I've got no idea "who I've watched". I'm aware of their existence and I've seen enough assorted clips to make it clear who they are and what they are about.

Oh ok you have seen a clip .

@Shudahaddogs thanks for the information about the supermarket

What about buses and trains, please? Is that classified as a public place for filming purposes?

Also based on some of your replies here –do you think it's okay to film the victim of an accident having treatment? Because it's happening in a public street?

FunMustard · 30/09/2025 20:29

I've heard of them - someone mentioned it to me just this week - but honestly even reading this thread I still feel mystified.

What's "auditing" got to do with winding up members of the general public? Is there something specific they're doing? I don't want to google and start getting videos for them tbh, sounds insufferable.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/09/2025 20:35

@FunMustard I haven't seen any of these auditors winding up the general public, but that's not the kind of thing I would look for

I don't know what the wind up merchants call themselves

I started seeing it - it being the term "auditors" - because I wanted to see live video of a particular protest, not far from me. The person live streaming it was calling himself an auditor and saying that he was streaming because he felt it would provide some accountability in the event of any police intervention.

Of course really what he means is he's doing it for clicks. But I did find it useful for various reasons.

FunMustard · 30/09/2025 20:37

But why "auditors" what are they auditing?! I've only heard about it in a financial sense and that's clearly not what's happening here!

Doseofreality · 30/09/2025 20:39

A family member of mine was the “victim” of one. They had personal details published online and it caused a great deal of distress.

They are not “Auditors”, they are sad pathetic wankers trying to belittle people to make themselves feel important.

Okiedokie123 · 30/09/2025 20:41

Shudahaddogs · 30/09/2025 19:33

Isn't that the point tho ? They don't have to deal with them, it's not illegal. I don't watch those kind of audits, but I have seen them. If they didn't engage as no crime no video??? The ones I have seen, its almost like they want the air time. Yes your correct it's not a new thing, but as in OP channel 4 think it is.

They DO have to deal with them though. When they are wandering about reception, getting in people’s way etc.

Even if all they do is stand there filming, it’s grim for my colleagues who have got to work all day on the front desk knowing they are being filmed and will be on you tube - without their consent. Why don’t auditors care about consent

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 30/09/2025 20:42

Shudahaddogs · 30/09/2025 20:17

I genuinely think you don’t understand the terminology you use.

An auditor is a vlogger, there are many different types of vloggers. They are blogging video content they’ve created of what they like to call audits. They’re vloggers. Not all vloggers are auditors but all auditors are vloggers (unless they do it for their own personal reasons and don’t make a video on social media about it). But seeing as we are talking YouTube I’m guessing we’re only talking about the ones who put their content on social media.

So if you're hit by a bus tomorrow, and you're lying in the street at your most vulnerable, covered in your own blood, semi conscious, delirious with pain, your clothes cut off so that defib pads can be attached; it's perfectly fine to film you and put it on YouTube, because of course the paramedics should be filmed? If you think that, you're a genuine sociopath.

DJ audits has a drone, (David)
PJ audits,
AB

Over the years many have come out that just want arguments, and clicks.
Who do you watch I like a good drone watch.

Edited

Drone audits Scotland, to be honest he could post anything i just love the accent.DJE media when he was doing NT /london before he went weird. Anything focus pocus has done ever. DJ as the industrial Estate will not be the same in 10 years time, across the pond it's KULT news and long island audit. Iam surprised this post has got so much negative traction. I wanted to find people who watched audits and enjoyed them, and who they watched. Seems like they are quite the divide.

'Auditing' as in enduring that public money isn't being wasted. We pay for the police, so we should be able to film them at all times, to make sure we get what we pay for. Is the thinking, and where the term comes from. It's nonsense obviously.

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 30/09/2025 20:46

So dje media is a well known self described vlogger. He certainly does drone stuff, he also does general ambulance and police chasing.

Saw a video earlier today actually of the police arresting someone in Manchester City centre.

No word of a lie there were 40 -60 people crowding round the police in a circle. All with the phones out recording content for their social media while the guy was searched.

All desperate to get as close as possible and crowding the police, nearly touching them. Dje media was there, Charlie veitch and his bodyguard was there, dozens of sad wannabes were there.

FunMustard · 30/09/2025 20:37

To give one example, some of them are filming what's going on outside asylum seeker hotels and some of them are actually walking into the hotels and harassing the staff and if they encounter any residents, those too

Regardless of what you think about asylum hotels, I don't think that's acceptable.

I have never watched an auditor film that. Given that comment, I fear you are more the " Psyco" not them. Do better.
