I miss the old mumsnet, as it was before it got flooded with ads and hate.

It's just not what it used to be. It used to be some lighthearted relief, now its clunky, laggy, grabby ('use cookies or pay!') and littered with hate.

I was on here years ago and enjoyed reading some of the batshit posts. I remember reading "snapped and farted" and having to read again as I thought I'd read it wrong. It was so funny. It changed during lockdown and got very hateful. I think that time really impacted lots of people for the worst.

I still use the mashed potato lemon drizzle cake recipe I got on the f-you Chris fest chat. The randomness was awesome. But also it was a moment in my life (up at night feeding) so I guess I changed too

You’ve not been so nice on other threads this evening, personally attacking other posters, so… not really one to talk about ‘hate’.

Robertplantgoddess · 29/09/2025 23:26

I randomly came across mumsnet when googling how to get rid of mice. It was probably 6-7 years ago. I've noticed at least in the last couple of years there are more threads I'm not investing in. That may be me and not mumsnet though.

NebulousWhistler · 29/09/2025 23:52

A huge number of posters loved the rules of covid. I was flabbergasted at how many thought an authoritarian dictatorship was a Good Thing. It was and still is incredibly divisive, and for me, that’s when things changed. It changed communities and how people interact with each other.
But that is societal rather than mumsnet specific. I still have a browse most evenings, though I would never admit to it in real life.

Racism usually makes me angry and upset. Silly me eh?

And so it has always been said in cycles over the years. I have been here with different usernames on and off since 2005. There have always been posts saying how much it has changed and how people don't like it anymore.

I think the last few weeks have been worse in terms of tone. The Raise the Colours gaslighting and threads about the murder of CK in particular (not using full name in case the bots decend).

And then there's the freezing on ads and the pay up or let's our cookies track you malarkey.

Yes but now we have the ads and the lagging and the grabbyness of MN HQ to add to it.

The hateyness has upped a notch and critical thinking gone down.

Every thread is in AIBU - AIBU to replace currants with sultanas in my fruit cake , AIBU to buy this jumper - AIBU IS NOT THE RIGHT PLACE FOR THAT <collapses>

MinnieMountain · 30/09/2025 07:12

@GeorgeMichaelsMicStand that irritates me too. I vote the way the OP clearly doesn’t want if they have voting enabled.
