AIBU to think Taylor Swift is being carefully repositioned and we’re not meant to notice?

I can’t shake the feeling that there’s a very slow, very subtle shift going on with Taylor Swift’s brand.

She built herself up as pro-choice, feminist, outspoken and a liberal figure. But since this whole NFL era, it feels like the edges are being sanded down. It’s not loud, not obvious, just little things like the relentless focus on her cheering in the boxes, the glossy all American girlfriend framing, the way the messaging has become more family-friendly, less political.

It’s clever because it’s incremental. Nobody suddenly says that she’s gone conservative, but drip by drip she’s aligning with NFL values which are patriotism, wholesomeness and big money sponsors who want safe.

I'm not a massive swiftie, but I have enjoyed her music, and maybe I'm a bit of a cynic but isn’t this how brand re-positioning works? Quiet, steady, so by the time you realise it’s happened, it already has.

AIBU to think we’re watching that play out in real time and it could backfire badly? Especially if the upcoming album turns out to be very beige?

hmm, true she probably is exhausted after the tour. But I overheard overheard two older teens, students perhaps, in Pret describing her as Spotify for divorcees and laughing, I though Oh dear ! This is perhaps the beginning of the end?

Oh no! She's only been the world's number one pop act for about 15 years! How will she - and we - cope?

2021x · 30/09/2025 23:30

Taylor swift is a business woman first and a pop star second.

She is a good song writer, and was one of the first to understand with the advent of Spotify that she could only make the money out of her music on tours.

I am assuming she is going to follow all the rappers, and start her own label and pull back on her own music as she gets older, so she can make money on the live shows

I don't see that at all. Time will tell I guess!

She is also a money maker - hundreds rely on her for their wages. It’s naive to think she won’t have the marketing machine behind her to cash in somewhere and somehow. It’s also naive to think (like any pop stars) that who she represents is who she truly is. This is her job, not entirely her whole being.

She is getting older and is settling down. Of course she will he seen at games etc and of course her marketing machine will cash in.

@MidnightTheory sorry - you overheard two teens say something and that lead you to think this is the beginning of the end for her?

Yep. Two teens who use the word 'divorcee'.

odd!

anyway to counter that, I am taking dd and friend to the cinema on friday to watch the album release, they are all fans (tweens/teens) so very excited. maybe this is the begging of a whole new era of fans?!

Anyone who moves away from being pro murder of unborn innocents is moving in the right direction and needs to move faster.

Yay, a man is here!
And he's searched out a thread on a pop star so he can shoehorn in his irrelevant opinion on what women should so with their bodies!

Justaspy · 04/10/2025 18:39

You can like her music and not her politics.......

I think you’re spot on! I have always found the hype surrounding her very odd for someone whose just a pop star. She can sing but I just don’t get why people go mad over her. I think she’s always been over marketed (cleverly bcus it’s worked) but when you look past that…..I think she’s beige. And to be honest the shift that’s going on with her as you say is a rebrand, got to keep her relevant and in keeping with whatever they think will keep her on her pedestal. She’s get older and needs to keep her appeal somehow? Or get married start a family amd slowly disappear.

I am entitled to an opinion on what happens to an innocent unborn human because every human being was one.

Male or female, it is irrelevant.

Seriously, WHY do you have a Taylor Swift themed username? You clearly despise her. Confused

Plus the lyric is actually sipped away like a bottle of wine, not slipped....sorry, pedantic Swiftie here just had to point that out 👀

Maybe she’s aiming to have a child?

I don’t think her core beliefs have changed.

Who really cares about Taylor Swift ? ? !!!
wow

Actually it’s not irrelevant at all.
Women are dying in the states because of the abortion ban. Your life is not in danger.

If women are dying from abortion bans, it is due to medical malpractice since you can always get an abortion if you are at risk of death or significant harm.

The case in Texas was someone who died who should have had a termination, but it was a wanted baby so probably did not mentally move fast enough to ‘termination’.

I’m pro-choice, but abortion bans don’t necessarily mean that mothers will die. Doctors can be complete assholes though and care about protecting themselves over the best interests of their patients. I hope they get sued into financial ruin to send a message to other doctors in these states.

"Woman who grew up in a traditional church family joins in with her peers in supporting progressive values in her 20s in the 2010s when those were popular and uncontroversial causes, then enters her 30s, gets engaged and finds herself drawn to traditional family life again at a time when her peers are also settling down"

THIS MUST BE A PLOT

She's still making music, hardly becoming a tradwife. It's not like she's suddenly pronouncing on the sinfulness of gay relationships or saying women should go back to the kitchen. I don't really see much change, certainly not the huge change the OP apparently saw.
