To think Starmer calling Refom and its supporters ‘racist’ is politically suicidal?

SpottyAardvark · 28/09/2025 20:08

Starmer has called Reform’s policy of ending indefinite right to remain for non-EU immigrants ‘immoral’ & ‘racist’. Reform supporters, and people who are considering voting for Reform because of their concerns about immigration, will inevitably think the Prime Minister is calling them immoral racists, too. And that will infuriate millions of voters.

I understand that it’s Labour’s conference this week and because he is under a lot of political pressure from his own side, Starmer believes he has to throw some red meat to his party. That’s politics. But Starmer has obviously forgotten what happened to Hillary Clinton when she described Trump voters as ‘deplorable’. That didn’t work out well for her, did it?

YABU = Starmer is right. Reform and its supporters are racists and he should call it out.

YANBU = Starmer has just committed political suicide by falling into Farage’s trap and he has alienated working class voters.

@BallerinaRadio "cunty old grifter" - never seen a better description! Grin

Absentosaur · 28/09/2025 20:49

BallerinaRadio · 28/09/2025 20:38

They. Would. Never. Vote. For. Him. Anyway.

Sigh. Alienating people is not the way to win elections. If you open your mind you would find that many ex Labour voters would vote reform. But that’s a bit too nuanced for your thinking, I see.

CuriousKangaroo · 28/09/2025 20:50

It’s made me like him more. It’s about time he called it out. And frankly, what’s the alternative? Bring in similarly racist policies to win over Reform voters? That would be immoral and wouldn’t work anyway - you can’t out right the far right. Labour should be standing up for what’s right and setting out an alternative vision. I hope this will lead him to finally admitting what we all know - that Brexit has been a disaster and is a significant factor in our economic decline.

Those with no right to be here can already be deported.
Illegal Immigrants are already being deported (not sure of the difference between this and the first one)
Legal Migration is already reducing.

What are Reform offering on top of that? You can’t run a country based on 3 things - that are already happening.

They’ve sent back 3 under the 1 in 1 out scheme. Yesterday 895 men came in on small boats.

childofthe607080s · 28/09/2025 20:51

So you want someone is not keen to work to be forced into the care home to look after granny? You want the unskilled to be building your next home? You want the person who hasn’t worked for ten years because of ill
health and a dodgy hip filling in the potholes? I mean why haven’t they got work? After all there are still plenty of vacancies - chefs are in very short supply

the people not working are bit going to end up doing those jobs

HopingForTheBest25 · 28/09/2025 20:52

Mainstream politicians never learn - failure to address the legitimate concern around immigration and calling people who expressed those concerns, racist, is how we ended up with Brexit!

Public perception of Starmer is that he's reactive, not proactive. He's had long enough to make meaningful change but the country is not better. Public patience is running out.

MN is not representative of the public - if it was, Remain would have won by a landslide. British people are not generally demonstrative - we put up with a lot from our govt without rioting every weekend. If sufficient people can be arsed to to join a march and stick flags up all over the place, Starmer would do well to take note, and actually do something about the illegal crossings etc. We're an island, ffs - how hard can it be to control borders?

I am not a Reform voter, but even I can see that the only way to keep them out of power is to address the issues which are getting them support. Why aren't the govt doing this?

childofthe607080s · 28/09/2025 20:52

I think that illegals go back to the country of origin not to France under the scheme

childofthe607080s · 28/09/2025 20:53

Anyway / surely you see Britain is so great that’s why everyone wants to be here

LavenderBlue19 · 28/09/2025 20:55

BallerinaRadio · 28/09/2025 20:31

Reform on track to win the next election 😂😂😂

The cunty old grifter's arse would fall out if he got anywhere near real power he's not interested in running the country whatsoever

Completely agree. I strongly suspect he'll take them to the next election, then just before debates start he'll find some excuse to step down - ill health, scandal, infighting... whatever it is, the cunty old grifter 😁 has absolutely no interest in being PM. Far too much like hard work.

Notmymarmosets · 28/09/2025 20:55

God he's hopeless isn't he?
People vote for someone they like or respect and who they believe likes and respects them.
Every time he opens his mouth he pisses off someone else. He doesn't have to appeal to Labour voters - whats the point of that?
He has to appeal to Reform voters who will not be won over by being accused of having racist beliefs.
But at least he is one of the pure.

Lonelycrab · 28/09/2025 20:55

TheFrendo · 28/09/2025 20:43

I will vote for Reform because...

a) They promise to deport those with no right to be here.
b) They promise to deport illegal immigrants.
c) They promise to greatly reduce legal immigration.

What is racist about that?

The word promise features heavily in your post. How trustworthy do you see politicians that make promises? Do you see faridge as being particularly trustworthy?

And when is the next election…

Figgygal · 28/09/2025 20:56

Topseyt123 · 28/09/2025 20:32

It's the truth. I agree with him on this.

Reform are a party of racist twats. Those who vote for them are racist even though many will try to hotly deny it.

Agreed and it's time to call them out

childofthe607080s · 28/09/2025 20:56

Over 24000 illegals have been returned over between March and July - not 3

SpottyAardvark · 28/09/2025 20:56

PerkingFaintly · 28/09/2025 20:45

OP: To think Starmer calling Refom and its supporters ‘racist’ is politically suicidal?

And I see you got a head start on the newspapers by starting a thread making the same false claim in the title.

You could report your thread to MNHQ and ask them to edit the title for you. Or are you happy with what you've written?

Perfectly happy, thanks, because that’s the only message anyone considering voting for Reform is going to hear. And ‘Starmer thinks people who are concerned about immigration are immoral racists’ will be the first sentence in Reform’s manifesto at the next election. That’s why it’s politically suicidal.

Just to do some verbal maths can you answer the following?

  1. Is being concerned about your population increasing by nearly a million people a year due to immigration ‘racist’?
  2. If the two mainstream parties have been voted in time and time again and cannot or will not rectify the above, who should you vote for then that isn’t racist in your view?

Well given your demographics it is either deport your retirees to care homes overseas OR import the immigrant labor to care for them in country where their families can visit them.

You have already exported all your factory jobs to China.

You have allowed farm work to become a just in time seasonal model instead of the traditional full time locally sourced farmhands so you have to bring in migrants to pick those strawberries, leeks and beets and whatever other odd things you grow there.

You love your nonEnglish cuisine (can we blame you?) so you really do need curry houses, chinese restaurants and mainland European cuisine. Need immigrants for that unless Gordon Ramsey is going to suddenly be able to cook a banquet with just a wok.

You allow your citizens to date and marry noncitizens so you can’t really start banning these foreign partners and the children of British citizens.

Your University funding model has been fucked by copying our American system. So like us, you need the tons of money that international students bring to keep your universities afloat.

You voted for Brexit so you ended up needing more nonwhite, non EU immigrants to fill in a gaps left by departing or not coming any more EU international migration that because it was so easy was more fluid and less of the permanent settling,

The Reform party policies are not going to curb immigration. Banning resident status just punishes the legal immigrants who have already been there for years, paying taxes, paying extra NHS contributions, paying visa fees. Only a few will leave, most will not be able to afford the loss of the time and money already spent towards naturalizing. It will increase child poverty on their children, most of whom are British citizens because most of the immigrants going for residency and citizenship are married to a British citizen.

childofthe607080s · 28/09/2025 20:57

He doesn’t have to appeal to reform voters - you can’t appeal to everyone and shouldn’t try

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 28/09/2025 20:57

Reform, their policies and those that would vote for them, are racist. I’m glad he said it.

BundleBoogie · 28/09/2025 20:57

BallerinaRadio · 28/09/2025 20:45

You're basing your whole vote on getting non white English people out of the country. Gotta admit it sounds a bit racist don't it?

Immigration is not the only issue despite what the grifters would like you to think

Where did that post mention any colours?

So what happens when the immigrants get old, and their families do, and they need care? Do we keep the Ponzi scheme going?

The 24000 in the first few months of the year using existing schemes is a lot more than 3 under a scheme to France

Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav · 28/09/2025 20:59

The labour party and many of its supporters are just do as i say not as i do champagne socialists who think that anyone who doesn’t think the way they do is racist or thick!

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2025 21:01

Starmer called the Reform migrant policy racist and immoral, not their voters
