To question my ex on if he should be driving

So my partner has gone out tonight and my ex husband just so happens to also be out. Problem is he is supposed to be picking up our son tomorrow at 10:30 to go to his football match. The event finishes at 3am.

he has been known when we were together to ruin days out by drinking heavily the night before and I’d say no we can’t go out now because I’m not letting you put the kids in the car.

problem is if I ask him if he should be driving he’s going to lie and say he’s only had a few. I obviously won’t know if he’s telling the truth or not but given his carelessness I know he absolutely doesn’t give a monkeys uncle about if he would be okay to drive or not the next day.

would I be out of order to tell him he’s not taking our son? I really don’t know what to do. I don’t want to over react and be unfair but I also don’t want to potentially let my son in the car with someone over the limit.

YANBU.

My ex would text while driving. I used to snatch his phone out of his hand and say that if he's really that addicted to his phone, he shouldn't be driving.

It all came to a head when he did it while my son was in the car with us. He wasn't a dangerous driver outside of texting while driving, but far too over-confident. He picked up his phone once to send a text to his new girlfriend and I made him stop the car. I got my son out and we got the bus back home.

So no, YANBU to question if he's been drinking and if he plans to drive the next day. He's an arsehole if he thinks that's acceptable.

I don't get the relevance of your partner going out?

Can you just tell your ex that you can drive your son to football today?

Oh, just seen he was supposed to be collected at 10.30?

What happened?

I reported someone for texting and driving - almost into me.

The Police could not take any action - BUT she did go on the 'Naughty Drivers List' so will get stopped next time they saw her.
