I really enjoyed watching the final this afternoon and was delighted that England won. There were a few shots of Mark Carey and his wife who made it over from Canada for the event but I was really surprised that none of our “leaders” were there. Not in the crowd , nothing.

It would have been a real boost for women’s /girls sport, I would have thought if someone could have taken Princess Charlotte along - the Princess of Wales , or failing that her Dad. Turns out that Kier Starmer was heading for his conference, I am sure he could have got a later flight.

There was no one there representing our country at such a momentous occasion. AIBU ?

Good point now you mention it.

Dabralor · 27/09/2025 22:00

Kate’s the patron for England rugby but she is in frail health. She posted a nice photo. I agree it would have been nice for someone to have been there.

SliceofTosst · 27/09/2025 22:02

You'd think maybe Zara Philips.

ShesTheAlbatross · 27/09/2025 22:04

I agree.

Although just to be ever so slightly picky, Carney didn’t “make it over from Canada” for it. He was in London anyway, he was meeting with Starmer and some other European leaders to discuss security.

But yes, I agree with you that it was a poor effort. Could the royals not even get the Tindalls to go if for some reason no one else wanted to.

claracluck1978 · 27/09/2025 22:31

I was there & it was poor form for there not to be anyone there in an official capacity.

I honestly believe they would have been there for the men’s equivalent.

zara and Mike were there as guests of a private company but had a great day by the looks of them at the end!

In the grand scheme of things though it’s their loss - we’re world champions and it was a bloody fantastic match!

WhitegreeNcandle · 27/09/2025 22:34

Totally agree. Quite surprised Princess Anne didn’t notice the cock up and rock up with Princess Charlotte at the last moment.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 28/09/2025 06:16

It’s just another telling cockup isn’t it? Between them, the RF and the government can’t manage to organise a representative to something as significant as this. Absolutely inadequate.

I bet there would have been someone there if it had been the men's game. Imo it sends a message that women's rugby is somehow lesser than men's.

And it's not as though there aren't plenty of royals to show up to these things.

HeyThereDelila · 28/09/2025 06:32

Sadiq Khan was there with the Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy MP and the sports minister.

mamagogo1 · 28/09/2025 06:38

Well it’s women’s sport isn’t it, as per usual, not taken seriously. Only recently has women’s football had a lift too. Not a good look from the royals, would have been a great one to dispatch lady Louise to perhaps she could have taken Charlotte

Arrrrrrragghhh · 28/09/2025 06:38

Good point.
It really does send the message that it’s not as “real” as the men’s game.
Not as elitist either which is a positive.

opencecilgee · 28/09/2025 07:05

Starmer at conference
charles is unwell
wliam usually goes to these things though

What? She wasn't frail when she sat through hours of Wimbledon tennis 3 months ago, I am sure she could manage to sit through a Womens Rugby match . Very disappointing given she's patron.
If only there was a champion for womens sports, what a positive message it would have been for her and Charlotte to attend.

CurlewKate · 28/09/2025 07:17

Starmer is a bit busy at the moment! But there are plenty of members of the RF who could have gone. But hey-it’s not as if it’s REAL sport, is it?

Dabralor · 28/09/2025 15:40

Well, I’m sure I remember Kate saying that she has good days and less good days. Tbh this could have been solved had other members of the RF not been so problematic - harry could have taken Charlotte with his daughter, or one of the York sisters. If only they could all behave themselves and get over their in-house squabbles, it’s all quite unprofessional.

jumpingthehighjump · 28/09/2025 16:17

I am 😂 at Harry who lives in US taking Charlotte to the women's rugby that his SIL is patron for
The internet would crash!!

Dabralor · 28/09/2025 17:35

@jumpingthehighjump ludicrous isn’t it. If only they could get over themselves and put their differences aside for the sake of important occasions in national life where they are supposed to represent us effectively.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2025 17:36

This is the third thread on this I’ve read today. Zara and mike Tindell were there representing the rf. seems appropriate as he was a rugby player.

Boomer55 · 28/09/2025 17:38

Kate only does what really interests her. 🤷‍♀️

I think they were as private bdividuals.

InterestPiqued · 28/09/2025 17:44

What makes you say that she’s in frail health? I know she’s had cancer, but she’s finished treatment. I’ve seen nothing to indicate her frailty. She’s not known for doing many engagements and this would’ve made 2 in a week.

And the Tindalls were not there representing the royal family. They are not working royals and they were guests of Howdens insurance.

Morereadingthanposting · 28/09/2025 17:54

Apart from Anne current royal family sense of duty deeply lacking. Even before Kate was ill, she is patron of rugby league as well as union and when England hosted the World Cup in 2022 she only went to one England (men’s) match and didn’t bother with the finals, William is FA patron and didn’t go to the last woman’s World Cup, and, bearing in mind the commonwealth is meant to be a royal priority and Charles is also head of state of Australia the only one who could be bothered to get out of bed for the London dawn ceremony was Sophie. I also despise the way everyone has swallowed Charles’s “slimmed down monarchy” bs. He hasn’t cut down the money they get from the state. He’s just cut down the number of royals on the receiving end. Meaning we pay the same, get less royal patrons attending events and he and William get more…..

Maybe - I found one other started today , I started this one yesterday evening.

Interesting that many think the way I am thinking.

Kate was at the England v Australia match but odd she didn't go to the final.

Totally agree. That was my first thought when I saw the presentation
