To think “don’t judge a book by its cover” is a nice idea but not how the real world works?

We’re told not to judge people based on appearance, clothes, background or job but in reality, first impressions matter. People make snap judgements all the time and often those assumptions shape how you’re treated (especially in dating, work or even just walking into a room).

AIBU to think we should stop pretending that people don’t judge covers and instead just own that we all do it, even if we try not to?

'Don't judge a book by it's cover' is sage advice.

No-one's pretending that people don't, otherwise the advice would be redundant.
