The petition has had a response.

Basically the government have said "tough shit we're introducing it". They have said it won't be compulsory, but will be required for several things such as the right to work. Employers will have to do "right to work checks" therefore anyone wanting to work in the UK will need to have one.

I feel fuming as would like them to have at least acknowleged the huge number of signatures the petition gained and the clear outcry for a proper consultation on the matter.

I will not stop is illegal immigrants coming the government are trying to use this as an excuse to say it's a good idea. It will not make any difference. People that want to employ illegal immigrants will continue to do so and cash in hand jobs will remain!

We already have right to work checks. This is nonsense. Even Plantir guy has said it’s a bad idea which hasn’t been tested at the ballot box.

More integrity than Starmer. People are showing in by-election votes what they think of Labour.

They got far too used to to the control during Covid and liked it too much. Hence the tough shit we are introducing it.

Black/grey economy working is a big draw of coming to the uk.

With digital ID there becomes an increasing drive for all employees to be registered, it gets harder and harder for people to work without ID, thus making the UK no more appealing than other european countries who already have it.

There’s already checks. Digital ID doesn’t change this. Why would it?
if an employer isn’t checking your passport then they’re not going to check a digital ID.

I know of a few people working as delivery drivers for shops. All cash in hand. Obviously none have been checked.

You’d have to be a Starmerite to like them. All the other parties are against, plus some in his own party. And providers have pointed out issues.
