To think my neighbour should park in her own driveway….

To paint the picture - I live in a very small terrace down a narrow lane in the arse end of nowhere….terrace consists of about 10 houses and no-one (aside from said neighbour….) has a driveway. We all share about 6 on-street spaces (7 if no-one parks like a knobhead….).

If you don’t get one of these spaces, there’s a small housing estate about 3 minute walk away. Bear in mind alot of houses generally have two cars, it can be quite the battle come 5pm….

Next door is the end terrace and had the GENIUS idea to turn the bottom end of their garden into a driveway…accessible via a small lane which runs down the side of the terrace.

Her best friend has just moved in over the road, so when she’s visiting her after work she uses the on-street parking to save herself walking an extra 50 metres from the back of her house….leaving her lovely new parking spot totally empty.

She’s very young and works as a PT so can’t see this is an accessibility issue….

Honestly got half a mind to just park in her new driveway if I see it empty 🙃

  1. As long as the car is taxed and mot'd she can legally park in the on the road parking area.
  2. If other people using the road parking bothers you so much you should have bought a house with a driveway.
  3. Don't make assumptions re accessibility issues

It is what it is really and if she didn't turn the end of her garden into a parking space, it'd be all the same.

I expect the housing estate residents get just as frustrated with others parking there.

Why does no-one else have a driveway? Do they all have front gardens or do their street doors just open out onto the pavement?

WilliamBell · 24/09/2025 22:19

You're going to get loads of people saying it's fine and you don't own the road etc, but 100% those very posters would be wound up by this is it happened to them.

So yes, can't do much, but of course you're boiling over it, who wouldn't be?

If it's done properly with a dropped kerb then she's taken a space to create the driveway so it wouldn't be the same.

@TinyTempestdoors just open on to the pavement. No-one has a front garden….it’s quite common down winding Devonshire terraces

If there was also parking down the small lane that runs down the side of the terrace, I'm sure the OP would've said?

White is houses, purple is car spaces (road is only wide enough for cars on one side…) red is the route neighbour takes to get to her new spot, when she’s not being too lazy to use it….

In case anyone is struggling to picture it.

Well I’m glad it seems I’m not being unreasonable 😅

But surely your neighbour chose to use part of their land for this and therefore gets to choose whether or not she uses it.
It doesn't affect anyone else as it would have been the same outcome if she had never changed it.
And you can't park on her land, if that's what you were suggesting.

Mn Love a diagram

yes annoying but if she didn’t change her garden to drive she would still park on road

soooooooo

can you do the same and change your end of garden to a parking space ?
