To not go to Reformer Pilates today (even though I paid £25) because I’m feeling low?

Feeling a bit stuck and wondering what others would do. I’ve had a rough few weeks mentally, I’d probably describe it as mild depression. I’ve been low, ruminating a lot, struggling with energy and motivation. Today I’ve woken up feeling tired and sluggish (energy level maybe 4/10) but not physically achy or unwell (although I think I feel a slight headache coming on, I didn’t sleep well).

I’m booked onto a Reformer Pilates class this afternoon that cost £25 and it’s non-refundable. It’s something I normally enjoy and I know movement can help but I just can’t tell if pushing myself today will be helpful or if it’ll wipe me out even more.

Would you go? Or would you chalk up the cost and stay home to rest?

I think you should go, tell the instructor you might not be up to much, and then see how you feel 5-10 minutes in. If you feel worse then leave. It’s not a prison.

I have this dilemma sometimes but often I find once I get there, I feel better.

Only you know how much the £25 matters to you, @KindlySeaGlass, but I would say, when I've felt low, I have always felt better, every single time, for having got out and done something, particularly exercise.

Sorry you're feeling low. Is it anything specific or just general?

minipie · 24/09/2025 14:11

Oh and take some nurofen because if you have any bit of a headache Pilates will make it worse!

Endofthetunnel25 · 24/09/2025 14:12

Go - you will feel miles better than if you don’t.

go to the class and treat yourself to something yummy on the way home as a well done!

Tagyoureit · 24/09/2025 14:13

Go, you'll feel worse wasting the money. Go gentle and if you tire yourself out, hopefully you'll sleep well tonight.

Luddite26 · 24/09/2025 14:13

Go you will feel better for it.

If you really don't want to don't. It's your £25 to lose and at least the instructor isn't financially down.

scoobysnaxx · 24/09/2025 14:14

I treat depression.

GO. Just do.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/09/2025 14:14

Oh op I really really feel you. But no matter how you feel you never regret doing a class, but you may regret not doing it.

Try and get there if you can. I speak from 100% experience and I think it’ll do you good.

ShortColdandGrey · 24/09/2025 14:24

You should go. You will feel better once you have been. I always feel the same before my Saturday morning class but I feel so much better after I have done it 😀

Topjoe19 · 24/09/2025 14:26

You will feel better if you go. I drag myself to class sometimes but I'm always glad I did. Hope you feel better soon..

nomas · 24/09/2025 14:28

I've been there, but on the times I've made myself go, I've never once regretted it.

KindlySeaGlass · 24/09/2025 16:49

Hey everyone, thanks I’m going to go. I’ve just washed my face and about to get dressed, class starts in over an hour so I’ll be making my way soon. Things have just been really hard. I appreciate the encouragement :)

If I ever feel like this about exercise, I mentally give myself the option to do 10 mins and then go home. I have never actually done 10 mins and gone home 🤣 but giving yourself an out might help you leave the house!

Beekman · 24/09/2025 16:55

Can I just ask- is this a private class for £25 or part of a group?
