Workmen broke floor tile

We’ve had some work done in the house, not involving the floor. During the work they’ve cracked a floor tile. They didn’t tell me - I noticed it and brought it up at which point they said they’d replace it as closely as possible but they won’t be able to match it properly.

The work has been very expensive and I’ve had to dispute a few things with them to get them to do everything we paid them for. That might be irrelevant though. The actual issue is that I want some compensation for the floor now having a mismatched tile. AIBU? And if not - what is reasonable?

Are they a company or one man band type workers? Ask them for their insurance details and see what they say. A close match isn’t acceptable. Do you have legal cover with your house insurance? They may be able to advise if they won’t give insurance details.

Not sure insurance would cover the complete retiling of an entire floor. Not to mention the disruption possibly involving removing appliances.

Nobody will shell out for an entire floor replacement over one broken tile. The existing ones have probably have changed colour slightly over time, so it won't be possible to get an exact match.
