Same actress on two channels at same time.

Is it just me or does it feel a little odd when the same actress (on this occasion) is playing a role in two different TV programmes but both shows are being aired at the same time - on separate channels? Both new programmes (not repeats) - one BBC, one ITV. She’s on both 9-10pm. Had to Google her name - Eve Myles. I only saw a snippet of the ITV programme but she sounded like she had a similar role in the ITV show to the role she played in The Guest.

Maybe it’s just statistically that it feels weird 😂 given the hundreds of brilliant actresses out there.

Witchcraft!

JustMyViewOnThis · 22/09/2025 22:10

It’s obviously her year. I don’t watch much telly really but she’s new to me and popping up “everywhere” (in my small world!)

I remember thinking similar with Sally Lindsay a few years ago. She was popping up whenever I turned the box on.

Rob Rinder is hosting The Inheritance on Ch4 and touring India with Rylan on Sun evenings at the same time on BBC2

I watched a little of The Guest yesterday. Not for me, but I thought both the lead actresses were excellent! Really great performances, a very stylish potboiler 😊

JustMyViewOnThis · 22/09/2025 22:30

@offtocaliforniaagreed. I just thought on ITV that if I closed my eyes, the part Eve was playing, it could have been her character in The Guest. I literally watched 30seconds and she was manipulating a guy, similar to how she spoke to Ria. In the wide world of TV, you’d think they could stagger the two 😂

Davina McCall was on BBC and ITV at exactly the same time last week.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/09/2025 06:20

I remember back in the late 70s, Johnny Ball was the first person to be on all three channels at the same time. It was such a big deal there was a news piece about it before it happened.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 23/09/2025 06:24

I remember Paul Merton running off the hignfy set at 928 and appearing on c4 in the same clothes, apparently out of breath 2 minutes later.

Impossible! They live in the tv and can’t do both at once.

What was the Channel 4 show?

Mochudubh · 23/09/2025 08:10

Channel 5.US has been trailing 2 different Cop shows, both starring Tom Sellack in the same ad breaks. He's about 10-15 years older in one than the other. It's quite surreal.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 23/09/2025 08:17

I was surprised not to see her more since Keeping Faith (remember she's the reason we were all wearing yellow Janelle raincoats 😄).

I don't remember. Some chat show - graham Norton maybe? It was years ago!

Mochudubh · 23/09/2025 09:19

Tom Selleck! (Sorry Tom).

Timemyluckchanged · 23/09/2025 09:27

DH and I always say the same @JustMyViewOnThis and have assumed it’s because there’s a pool of ‘in’ actors at any one time and all lead roles seem to come from this.

Pointyhound · 23/09/2025 09:45

I remember getting really confused and merging plots when River and Unforgotten were first aired around the same time as both detective dramas starring Nicola Walker.

I am old enough to remember when Amanda Burton was in just about everything and if she wasn't actually on screen she was doing the voice over for M&S adverts.

Wasn't that Dervla Kirwan doing the voice over.

Just give thanks none of these duplicates are Alison Bloody Hammond. As one of my more down to earth colleagues would say, she's like dog shit - she gets everywhere!

TheHeartyKoala · 20/02/2026 20:43

I thought Amanda Burton M&S adverts were about 15 years ago, ie when she was still doing Silent Witness. Servant may be more recent.

Arlanymor · 20/02/2026 20:43

It's because she's a Welsh actress and Welsh television is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment - The Guest was a Welsh TV production as is Under Salt Marsh. I first saw her in 2017 on Keeping Faith (but the Welsh language version). So she's not new, she's just in her ascendency. I think she's brilliant to be honest and no different to when Suranne Jones, Sarah Parish, Sally Lindsay seemed to be in everything across multiple channels. If they do a good job of acting then surely that's all that matters, I definitely don't find it confusing when an actress is in more than programme at a time - if anything and they are good then it's hopefully a hallmark of something worth watching. I understand she's also with David Morrisey in a new series called Gone in March - so she's not going anywhere for now!

TheHeartyKoala · 20/02/2026 20:47

Nicola Walker was very visible a few years ago but I like her range. Her role in Scott & Bailey was SO removed from everything else I have seen her in. Annika was a particular favourite of mine.

I've just checked - Dervla Kirwan was the first voice back in 2004, then went back to it in 2020, and Amanda Burton has never done the adverts.

The first person the be on all channels at once was Johnny Ball (Zoe’s dad), but we did only have 3 channels at the time.
