Like so many 3 year olds "round these here parts", my DS1 has been getting around on one of those 3 wheeled micro scooters since Christmas. He's been absolutely brilliant about road sense: stopping and waiting at corners, crossing roads sensibly etc. Until the other day...

He zoomed across the road without stopping or looking. It's a quiet road that I usually let him zoom across ONCE I'M STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD to wave him across or stop cars if necessary.

Now I feel that I just can't trust him any more.

Should I give him another chance? Or is that it?

HOnestly it's a real PITA if that is it. He hasn't used the buggy board for weeks and weeks... but oh god, I couldn't bear it if it happened again.

I would give him another chance. He is only 3 and they have a tendency of forgetting how they are supposed to be doing things when they turn in to the red Power Rangers/Spiderman/Superman

Yes, but in this case, that tendency to forget what he's meant to be doing could get him killed.

It really gets your heart up your throat when they do things like this.

Could you try telling him that he is will not be allowed to "scooter" ahead of you if he does not remember the road safety rules, but will have to stay right beside you all the time? If that makes any sense.

Yeah, possibly. Perhaps I could get a dog lead on and extender and attach it to his belt. When he goes too far ahead I press the button and - snap! - he stops.
