Steeling sauces in weatherspoons

I went for lunch in weatherspoons, thre was two horrendously rough couple with a child eating a greggs sausage roll. They put sauces from the table in there bag. It's stealing plain and simple. I'm utterly appalled at some people these days.

@Dogaredabomb , I've no idea. Greggs isn't somewhere I frequent.

alwaysstressed · 23/09/2025 09:24

I think you’ll find it’s stealing not steeling.

Wetherspoons don't have ketchup sachets! They use full size bottles for ketchup, mayo and brown sauce. The sachets are only for the less popular condiments.

The rest of the post you're fine with though, right?

The rest of the post is invalidated because it's on the premise of taking ketchup sachets (minor cost, often taken and wasted by genuine diners) versus the correct scenario of taking ketchup bottles (bigger cost, inconveniences other diners, not usually wasted because you only pour what you need).

MyDogHumpsThings · 23/09/2025 12:35

Imagine going to Wetherspoons and judging the clientele

skybluejo · 23/09/2025 12:36

Why were they horrendously rough? What makes you not horrendously rough in comparison?

CasperGutman · 23/09/2025 12:36

I wouldn't do this. OTOH I do nick supplies from hotel room tea trays. And when we go to McDonald's* our local branch has ketchup and barbecue sauce dispensers so if the kids have nuggets I always order one of the other sauces with them and nick that. So, I suppose I'm no better!

*Insert obligatory disclaimer that this only happens a couple of times a year, obviously, this being Mumsnet.

Imagine being so up yourself that you wouldn't go to a Wetherspoons.

DH is a real ale drinker. He isn't at all "rough" or "common" but he likes their beer.

Totally comfortable in my stuck-upness here. I’d never go to a Wetherspoons. Plenty of other avenues for real ale that don’t involve supporting the business of that filthy gammon-faced buffoon, Tim Martin.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/09/2025 19:53

No rougher than somebody who goes to a Spoons for lunch instead of a restaurant.

Ooh, get you! 😅😅😅

Depends where you live.

"I do nick supplies from hotel room tea trays"

Presuming you've paid to stay in the hotel room, that's not nicking. You've already paid for it in the cost of the room. I sure many people empty the tray of teabags, sugar sachets etc. on departure.

MalinandGo · 23/09/2025 12:57

Not the point but I saw the thread title and was amused at how the 'a' has fled the word 'stealing' and gone to hide in 'Wetherspoons'.

ilovepixie · 22/09/2025 18:53

A horrendously rough couple? Just out of interest what makes them rough?

Maybe the fact that they were eating (Greggs) at a weatherspoon, same as her. Tho, tbf, if she comes across as a bit rough also (just a thought, same as she thought about them so obviously I’m not out of order or judging her…much), then I wonder how rough they must’ve been, or what It was that made her think they were rough?

Itsasecretnow · 23/09/2025 13:37

PurpleChrayn · 22/09/2025 18:52

Yes it’s discusting. I would of bin fummin.

And rediculous! Putting it in they’re bag would of had me apologetic with rage!

YYYDlilah · 23/09/2025 13:41

Myself defiantly would of need councilling.

Hmm, I'm not so sure. Surely it's provided as a facility so I can have a cuppa or two during my stay, not so I can restock my desk drawer at work? It seems pretty similar to the situation with condiment sachets, to me: there's no limit on how many I can use while I'm there, but they are provided for my use while I'm on the premises and not to take away with me to use elsewhere afterwards.

Is it just me finding the spelling and grammar in the OP horrendously rough?

Anyway @Amy34555- did they let the child have any ketchup on the sausage roll? Was the child drinking Coke? I need to know this before I can fully judge.

Indeed. That might be the roughest part of her story. (Usual dyslexia etc disclaimer, before anyone comes for me. But honestly, would have/could have?! Come on…!)
Yes, I need details too, because if the op isn’t coming off as a bit non-rough herself then they must of(😰) been appalling! Changing nappies on the table, that sort of thing, as well as having likely pints of coke! Feeding a child and having ketchup?! SS involvement needed asap, she should have(😱) called the polis!

So what's the difference between stocking up on drinks supplies at reception, say, five or six times a day, and just having tea/coffee etc. once each morning, and taking the two or three sachets left in the tray on the day of departure? I'd actually be taking less away in the latter instance. Anyway, ime the staff on reception tend to chuck virtually a week's supply at you if you request replacements outwith the room being serviced! It really doesn't seem to be a issue - the £30 to £40 per night - at an absolute minimum - more than covers a few teabags and sachets of instant coffee.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 23/09/2025 14:10

Antimimisti · 23/09/2025 08:01

I'm surprised they let them in with it - I once got turned away from a Wetherspoons because I had some food shopping with me in a bag - no intention of eating it in the pub Confused

You got turned away from a Spoons???

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 23/09/2025 14:13

Maybe they were rough because of all the blacksmithing?

GasPanic · 23/09/2025 14:13

Is this something you take prior to eating the "food" ?

I'm more offended by your spelling and grammar than left of sauce!

….so you think the point of my post was an observation about the taking of sauces?

It’s just possible that, unbeknownst to my conscious self, I’m writing your posts in order to have this conversation with myself.
