To be annoyed with Royal Mail… and to ask for advice?

I’ve been expecting a Royal Mail delivery for the last few days. For context, the item has come from abroad, but isn’t valuable - it’s just a food tray that I liked online and which has quite a lot of sentimental value for a few reasons, so I thought I’d order it.

They first tried to deliver it on Saturday, but no one was in, so I asked for it to be left in a safe place (enclosed porch) and re-delivered today.

I’ve now just had an email saying they tried to re-deliver it today but couldn’t, as no one was in (even though I asked for it to be left in a ‘safe place’ - the porch).

I’ve just checked the tracking service online, where they’ve said I’ve already requested a change (a re-delivery) so I need to check my confirmation email for more details. All that email says is this though: ‘If no one's home, we'll deliver your parcel to your chosen Safeplace, Enclosed porch. We’ll let you know when it's delivered.’

I don’t think I’m being U to be annoyed - I thought they would re-deliver it to the designated safe place even if no one is home (as they write in the email I quote above).

Does anyone know how long I need to wait, roughly, till they give me a re-delivery update? Thanks!

No advice but Royal Mail have been absolutely shite over the past few months, if not longer (I don't get a lot of parcels or mail so I haven't noticed it as much as others might have). Hopefully you get your parcel soon! X

It's probably easier to go to the sorting office at this point.

Thanks Garlic and Cherie. I don’t think it’s worth me going to the sorting office yet, as I don’t actually know where the parcel is. I’m hoping I’ll get an update from Royal Mail about the parcel tomorrow morning. If I don’t hear back from them by then, I’m not really sure what my options are, as I can’t see any contact details on their website. I know this isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but their customer service is really rubbish.

Call the helpline, they were really helpful when my parcel was “refused delivery and return to sender” when I had already requested (and received confirmation back) an alternative delivery date.

Thanks for your messages all! Just to update I received the parcel about an hour ago, just as I was on hold to the RM helpline (oh the irony). Very happy to have finally got the parcel 😊
