Can anyone explain, in simple terms, what's happening with Israel/Gaza/Palestine/Hammas?

I'm not very good with Politics (under statement). I see Starmer has made an announcement to recognise Palestine as a state, which is causing uproar. Can anyone explain what's going on, in very simple terms? TIA

I don’t think this is an issue that can be explained in simple, unbiased terms.

Israel/Gaza/Palestine - all sides want The West Bank, The Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights. Each party believes they have the right to have it.

Hamas - Nothing but a Junta. They won't be around forever. But don't worry, someone else will come in their place.

I agree. I've tried but it probably won't help.

Just wanted to add, -

After the holocaust the UN agreed that Jews needed a country of their own, a safe place to live. So they gave them Israel/Palestine. Only problem was, it wasn't theirs to give. Israel then argued, Arabs have got the whole of the rest of the middle east - can't they just go without this little bit. Clearly not.

I care deeply about the children affected by the war.
