Knife-wielding woman took taxi to random Premier Inn to ‘kill’ migrants

Terrorism? Or wrong colour? Let me guess ‘mental health issues’.

A woman armed with three knives threatened to kill migrants at a hotel after consuming far-right content online, a court heard.

Nina Manley, 51, had watched videos from far right social media figures such as Tommy Robinson before travelling to a Premier Inn in North Petherton, Somerset in August.
However, the hotel was not housing any migrants in its rooms and the police were called.

Manley, who was said to be drunk and stoned, told officers: ‘I’m pissed off and I’m going to f*cking kill someone.’

Recorder Matthew Cannings told her at Taunton crown court: ‘You watched videos of extreme far-right social media personalities like Tommy Robinson.’

Her defence lawyer Anjam Arif said Manley had come from a military background and lost a brother serving in Afghanistan.

He added: ‘Her actions were born out of bravado rather than a real threat to kill.’

Manley, of Bridgwater, admitted threats to kill and got a 12-month suspended jail sentence.
Her arrest came amidst a string of protests over the summer against hotels housing asylum seekers in different parts of the country.

See again this shows the idiocy of the law . She took 3 knives and actually went to the hotel and gets a suspended sentence . Lucy Connelly messages disgusting words and get significant jail time .

ExtraOnions · 22/09/2025 08:49

…anyone going out armed with a knife, making threats to kill (regardless of who), should be locked up.

I thought we were toughening up on knife crime - this seems extraordinarily lenient.

Not sure why she isn't being tried for terrorism offences. But then neither was the Stockport killer or the Nottingham killer either.

What was Lucy C charged with and then convicted of?

As pp said, she's lucky that she didn't post something mean on twitter.

Chaosclassic · 22/09/2025 09:04

We need to bring in a flat instant 10 years for knife carrying.

PastaAllaNorma · 22/09/2025 09:07

I'm guessing she wasn't a credible threat if she was off her face, at a Premier Inn ranting about wanting to kill someone, anyone, and they were prepared to give a suspended sentence.

If she'd been an actual risk rather than a pie-eyed lunatic I can't see the courts going so easy on her.

MyDeftHedgehog · 22/09/2025 09:10

Perhaps she was inspired by Ricky Jones...
Oh hang on, hes on the other team isn't he, the one where you can make threats of violence with impunity 😉

Context though. Connolly sent messages when feelings were running very high and arsonists were attacking hostels up and down the country. But perhaps you have a point - a couple of months inside might have helped this looper to dry out at least?

Bagsintheboot · 22/09/2025 09:19

The comparisons between this and Lucy Connolly's case are inevitable but poor. The two cases are very different, the charges are completely different, and so the sentences of course are different.

In one case you have a woman with a relatively higher public profile and relatively higher position of power (relative to the average person on the street) using said profile to incite violence in an already violent atmosphere, and who pleaded guilty to inciting racial hatred.

In the other you have a woman who by all accounts appears to have been severely under the influence at the time of offending, and who turned up at the wrong place. This does not appear to be a particularly intelligent woman, nor one who is operating from any kind of position of power. She also pleaded guilty, in this case to making threats to kill.

The sentencing guidelines for both crimes are different (contrary to what many seem to think, judges are bound by these guidelines and can't just hand out random sentences as they see fit). The individuals are different. The circumstances in which these crimes occurred are different. The sentences are, of course, different.

Local - She went to the wrong hotel - on the other side of the road!

(Chronic stress + poor trauma responses) x excessive drugs and alcohol= violent/dangerous and threatening behaviour.

The Nottingham killer is a chronic schizophrenic. I’m not sure what charging him with a terrorist offence would achieve?
