To ask you to help me work out which film DD5 is trying to describe

DD5 is looking for this film:

It has the boys with hats and green hair in a black and white room. And the boys sing.

Wtf?

Sounds a lot like the boy band in K-Pop Demon Hunters on Netflix.

It's definitely not K Pop anything.

I thought you'd cracked it with the Oompa Loompas, but I just got a sarcastic "they don't wear hats"

DD is incredibly literal. There are boys with green hair in a black and white room. They sing. They wear hats. There are more than 2 boys but not as many as 10.

She will be describing this with exact precision. However, it seems like it's a one off random thing she stumbled across (which I now think around a year ago, as she is now saying she could find it on the "old TV")

The video for the Justin Timberlake song that was in Trolls?

Artifishal · 20/09/2025 15:07

Good luck OP 🤣 This brings back memories of my son who is autistic with significant communication delays. We used to get this kind of thing all the time but without the details. He spent months, maybe even a year begging for what we worked out (eventually) to be a tv program. He would literally be in tears begging for it and we couldn't work out what he was trying to say. You can imagine the rejoicing that occured when we were channel hopping one day and it was on. Waffle the Wonderdog, as it turned out!

He also spent literal years talking about what sounded like "matt-you". Could we work that out?! We asked nursery, no idea. Managed to ascertain it was something outside. Sometimes it involved birds. Thought we had it sussed with a magpie - nope. Turns out it was guttering/drain pipes. Fucking years that took 🤣

Zombies? It’s on Disney. The boys have green hair and there is singing?

I showed her a picture of the Disney zombies. Nope.

I asked "real boys like Harry Potter or cartoon boys like Scooby Doo?"

Real boys

Lazy Town? That used to creep me out!

Cerialkiller · 20/09/2025 15:37

Scooby doo is very cartoony so if it was a computer animated film/show like kpop demon hunters then would DD say that was cartoon or real?

I'm realising how few green haired boy characters there are and wondering if it's more likely to be a computer animated thing it as pp suggest a music video.

Could you find out where DD saw it? You tube, netflix, TV? Might help narrow it down? Was it at school, at a grandparents or a friend's house so you can ask a supervising adult?

Thats what I thought but none have green hair

AbzMoz · 20/09/2025 15:40

Google AI says:

The film you are most likely thinking of is A Cinderella Story (2004).
The scene you described features a fictional boy band called The Hill's Angels. They have green hair, wear hats, and perform a song in a black and white room. The song they sing is a rendition of "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from the original Cinderella.

It's on TV.

It's not a recent thing, more likely at least 6 months old as she refers to finding it on the "old TV" which would be before we bought this one 6mths ago.

She selected it. So it would have been as she flicked through Disney, Netflix, Paramount, or Prime. They are the only things she knows how to choose. It's 99% on Netflix as that's where she will always go to as she's addicted to Harry Potter. It's also why she calls it a film, because you can choose it like you choose Harry Potter.

Loud guitar songs, performed by around 6 (human) boys, in a black and white room. And they wear hats.

We have now identified that the singing green haired boys' hats are top hats.

It sounds like a music video if it’s a film with one song and real boys.

You'll discover in about 3 years time when you've driven yourself certifiably insane, that it is a TV advert or something 😆

Ooh, I remember that film being on tv when I was a little girl, so late 1950s/early 60s. Everyone we knew had black & white televisions then so it was a bit disappointing Confused
