Raise work grievance or not

Hi I’ve handed in my resignation notice as I can no longer work with undermining toxic boss. He has made my life hell for months with put downs constant criticism no progression opportunities left out of activities outside work etc. I have a new job only problem is it’s contractor side and my current role is the client so chance of working again with him in the future. Hr advised me to raise a grievance before I leave in November but not sure what to do. I’m also being ignored and it’s pretty lonely and few weeks off before i officially leave. I’m the only female in the team not that it should matter but I’m disappointed and it’s a pretty big company I’m in.

What would be the likely outcome of raising the grievance? Would your current boss likely be sacked? Have his card marked so its easier to get rid of him in the future?

Raising the grievance is the best mechanism you have to punish bad boss and reduce the chance he treats someone else like that. Don’t expect it to change much for you, but if you can manage to do the paperwork then do it for the greater good.

its unusual for HR to ask you to raise a grievance, it may mean they are looking to get rid of this person. Grievance policies don’t tend to serve anyone. If he’s likely to be your client in your new role, would it be beneficial to sit with him and a neutral third party and tell him face to face, keeping it fact based and unemotional, how he’s impacted you as a manager before you leave?

Being ignored as the only woman on the team smacks of bullying and sexism

Hi thought I’d update this thread. I’ve started my new position and it’s a massive difference from the people and environment already I know I have made the right decision. I’m almost scarred from the last place it was so toxic. Not a card nothing when I left a couple have kept in touch and given numbers etc.HR reached out to me after I left and turns out they want rid of my toxic boss hence why they were keen to get me to raise a grievance. I said I’m not doing it as I have to work in the same industry. TBH feel so let down and need to get my confidence back up again. I’m glad I left and I need pick myself up and move on.
