To think the government should be cracking down on people who make videos while driving?

Why hasn't it become a reportable offence when so many people make videos while driving? How is it safe to record and drive? I find it infuriating and i usually don't watch these videos as I feel I'm enabling them as much as I'd be enabling someone who's on the phone with me knowing they're driving.

I know my views don't count much but am I the only one who thinks people should be reported and at least fined if they're caught recording their videos while driving, the same way they'd be in trouble if caught on the phone irl while driving.

I don't see anyone talking about this and so many things have been annoying me a little too much lately (more than usual. Me thinks it's the peri). Anyway, I've decided to use good old mumsnet as my venting space for likeminded people because I don't do social media channels or pages (where I could post about these things) besides just lurking and the occasional comment here and there if necessary.

So aibu to think people should be getting in trouble for this?

Where are you seeing these videos? I don’t think I’ve ever driven past anyone who appears to be recording. The only videos I see on social media are dash cams.

ShowerThoughtsAndQuestions · 19/09/2025 19:22

No not the dashcam ones recording the road. Loads of people who think they have something so important to say on social media (YouTube, etc) but it clearly can't wait so they have to make videos of themselves talking about whatever it is on camera while driving. Sometimes they fiddle with the camera to focus or record the right position.

This has been happening for many years, so not a recent thing. Back then, I'd still watch them but I don't anymore if I ever see a video and it's someone driving while rambling on camera.

It seems most people don't have a problem with this? Explains why it's rampant online.

(Or it could also be that most people haven't seen this thread. Do come in and vent with me if you also have a problem with it. Give me hope in humanity agreeing with common sense and doing the right thing).

Never seen or heard of people doing this?

hungryduck · 20/09/2025 10:56

Can't say I've ever seen one. Plenty of videos parked in car parks though. Not sure why the car is the background of choice but a lot of social media bemuses me.

ShowerThoughtsAndQuestions · 20/09/2025 10:59

I'd search for them and post links but I'm not trying to send anyone to add views to any of these sort of videos I have a problem with. I'm sure you'll see them someday.
