Just that. I know it's not just me. But really I ask you. Just why?

OP posts:
Smartiepants79 · 19/09/2025 18:50

What garish colours? Where?

ThePoshUns · 19/09/2025 18:51

Que?

SomebodysIcecream · 19/09/2025 18:53

On Mumsnet? Yeah - it’s awful!

Livingthebestlife · 19/09/2025 18:53

Tbh it was a bit shocking yesterday but have actually gotten use to it.

MoltenLasagne · 19/09/2025 18:53

Yeah, not a fan of the new colour scheme.

Fallulah · 19/09/2025 18:55

Oh I like it - nice and fresh. It’s also easier to scroll quickly through a thread and see the OP’s posts and your own.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/09/2025 18:55

It is not just you, @Viviennemary -i know MNers who are prone to migraines, and the new colours have given them migraines. I’m lucky - I don’t get them, but I am finding the new colours a strain on my eyes.

Sadly the MNHQ responses on the site thread about the changes do not give me much hope that they are listening to their users, and that they might reverse the changes.

Wishitsnows · 19/09/2025 18:55

The Colours on mn haven’t changed for me

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/09/2025 18:55

Doesn't appear garish to me, perhaps you need to adjust the display settings on your device? (I am on a PC though, perhaps the mobile/tablet mode is super garish!).

Nursemumma92 · 19/09/2025 18:55

Yes I did too, but I've switched dark mode on and it's saving my eyes for sure!

3pears · 19/09/2025 18:56

I don’t suffer with migraines or have any kind of vision impairment and I still find them way too bright with not enough contrast. It strains my eyes after a bit. I’m surprised by the choices of colour because they’re really bad

Icon15 · 19/09/2025 19:01

I don't find them garish. Quite the opposite - they're far too pale and difficult to distinguish. I very much prefer the old colours.

Ever since the option was there, I've always had the OP posts set to green and my own to a sort of purply pink. But now the green is very, very pale and greyed out and the pink is also very pale.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/09/2025 19:03

I think you are right too, @Icon15 - some of the colours are very insipid, but other parts of the display are much brighter and more garish.

RaraRachael · 19/09/2025 19:06

I'm not seeing any garish colours.

What I am seeing are wishy washy colours to highlight posts, that are almost indistinguishable from each other.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/09/2025 19:09

I find the royal blue of the buttons garish, @RaraRachael, and the whole thing is just far too bright for me. I know it has given people migraines, and my head is starting to ache.

Thank you, I didn't know about that option. The new colours are not making me feel great (I'm prone to migraines and dizziness).

PearlCluches · 19/09/2025 19:12

I found it a bit bright but I’ve already got used to it now.

HausofHolbein · 19/09/2025 19:15

I hate it. @mumsnet please change it back!!

I think Mumsnet IT has probably just about reached the Freeserve level of technology now. Any decade now and they'll be offering a CD of Encarta to premium subscribers - by all rights we should get to graphics and readability on a par with Windows XP by 2117.

RaraRachael · 19/09/2025 19:25

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I haven't noticed any difference in the colour of the buttons.

I've poor eyesight and really miss the nice purple colour I used to highlight my own posts.
