I’m in a hotel in Dublin. DH asleep.

I’ve had terrible stomach pain for about 4 hours now.

Im pretty certain it’s acid reflux type pain.

I took Gaviscon + paracetamol about 3 hours ago. That helped and I got a few hours sleep.

Pain is now back.
I have just taken 40mg of Omeprazole.

I’ve run out of Gaviscon. Tesco opens at 7am. There are no 24 hour pharmacies in Dublin apparently.

What can I do, with my limited resources and lack of knowledge of local services?

ETA I am also going to the toilet a lot (poo).

Is there a walk in centre type place? Stomach pain / indigestion can sometimes be a heart problem

Buy some soda water & peppermint cordial, I have bad acid reflux & sometimes find that as well as the acid I have the need to burp, the cordial will help to alleviate this & get the excess air out. Can you prop yourself up to 45 degrees with pillows? This will stop the acid coming back up.

There’s A&E but I don’t think it warrants that. I’ve got a history of acid reflux/ ulcer (ulcer was years ago) and as the Gaviscon helped I think that’s what it is.

Thanks, I am propped up. Peppermint a good idea.

Hopefully when you’ve finished passing any poo that’s left this will die down. Any kind of backup can cause the worst reflux. Is there anything there you could eat that would help in the short term? I find fruit helps, if there happens to be any. My theory is that it gives the acid something to do!

Can you get milk? That will help ease heartburn.

don't do this. Dairy doesn't help reflux. Can make you more sickly.

Peppermint tea or cordial, as suggested. Hoping the pharmacist open now for gaviscon.

Thank you everyone. I had Gaviscon by 7am but fortunately I was asleep by then.

In the end I had a couple of biscuits which did help and some more painkillers after the 4 hour wait and I did manage to get to sleep for a few hours.

I didn’t eat properly yesterday and that didn’t help + stress + a couple of days in a row of alcohol which I’m not used to.

I appreciated the input at 3am, it helped! I’m being more cautious today.
