I took down some flags and DH wasn’t happy

On my commute today, I noticed someone had hung three large St George flags on a bridge coming out of our village. They have been popping up everywhere but this particular instance I thought “I’m not having that”. On the way home I pulled over and took them down.

when I got home and DH asked why I was binning three large flags I told him and he.. had some interesting opinions. He told me I shouldn’t be pissing off people in the village, that they have every right to hang an England flag in England, and that I’m being too political.

For a start, I would argue that I’ve always been quite strongly opinionated so he shouldn’t be surprised I did it.

Just as others have the right to their opinion I have mine. We have people in the village who are migrants… why should they have to look at that. It’s clear why they were hanging there given what’s going on at the moment and I’ve never see a flag hanging in the village in the decade we’ve been here so why else would they be there now.

I’m just so disappointed with it all. With the UK, with DH.

Next time maybe I’ll add to the collection instead. 🇬🇷🇮🇪🇮🇳🇦🇫🇧🇸🇵🇰🇪🇸🇸🇩🇿🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Yours was the best post on this thread, imo.

I have no idea why it was deleted, you said nothing wrong. We are being erased, aren't we?

Erased!! Your fellow flag worshipper just had a Mumsnet post deleted. She's hardly been sent to the gulag.

Good grief. Maybe you need to go to specsavers.

During the last census 74.4 % of the population of England and Wales were white British. 46.2% were Christians and 37.2% had no religion.

This English Patriot shit boils my piss. Where was your patriotism when they were backdoor privatising and underfunding the NHS, taking away winter fuel payments from the elderly, putting up the pension age, recording record profits while increasing energy costs?

You are simply virtue signalling.
Both in your own village and on Mumsnet.

That was simply an example of being a good guest. I’m not looking for a fight.

The British were once a very proud nation who have overcompensated for the colonial wrongs of the past by completely allowing their immigrantion policy to dilute their identity. It is going to backfire monumentally if it hasn’t already.

You're telling British people who were born in Britain and who have British passports to go and live elsewhere, because they don't view the country in exactly the same way that you do? Why the fuck should they?

Most people can't just go and live abroad anyway since Brexit, yet another gift from the British hard right.

If I hated it here so much that the very sight of the flag upset me, of course I'd go elsewhere.

Look, I wouldn't move to Dubai because I'm not a muslim, I would be offended by the treatment of women and the existence of slavery, and I don't like the heat. If I moved there and started complaining about all those things, and telling people who lived there they were racist and stupid for being proud of their country, and that they should change everything to suit me, what would you say about that?

Marrrmite · 19/09/2025 14:15

I very often go out community litter picking. The flags are littering. It’s not good for the environment or local community to have all this plastic trash littering the place. They are polyester which isn’t biodegradable

This is such a crazy take.

Do you know what 150,000 people look like . Of course you don't.

How many people here?

Or here?

Or here?

We all know what 150,000 people DO NOT look like, and they certainly don't pack like sardines and fill up the length and breadth of Westminster bridge and all those surrounding streets.
If the people at the march equated to roughly slightly more than how many it takes to fill Wembley stadium, then there'd be sheer pandemonium every time a football match or a concert was played there.

And you may argue that people enter or leave Wembley at staggered times, but the march bought much of London to a standstill, and that doesn't happen if there's a game on.

Ever been round the Soho Road area of Birmingham?

My ds was a police officer on that patch. Christ, the things he saw. And yes animals being slaughtered in back yards and being walked down the streets.

I will take no offence to all those who say bullshit. I know it’s hard to visualise, but it does happen.

Oh my bloody christ. Animals being paraded down the street to their deaths in back gardens???

I take it the Police could do nothing g about it?? So our law is protecting and allowing this this behaviour?? Wtf??

This is so foul and to happen in our Country makes me want to vomit.

I feel sick to my stomach. This is the sort of hell that we are being subject to.
This is just one of the many many reasons people have had enough.
My grandparents would be distraught.

Stop being dim here. Most of us are aware that the current flying of the Palestinian flag is supporting terrorists, AKA Hamas. We see the uneducated and unwashed waving these around in London every week trying to intimidate Jewish people. We even have them where I live flying them at traffic lights trying to get money to fund their terrorist friends. It's the UK and people should not be condoning terrorist sympathisers flying flags whilst trying to ban people flying our own national flag. Dont like people flying our flag? That's just too bad I'm afraid.....

Can you point me towards the Hamas flags please.

I would like to understand the difference between those protesting against genocide vs those who are openly supporting a terrorist organisation.

Just this morning I saw images of yet more blown up children in Gaza. One little girl was still alive, with her intestines on display. We have had 2 years of this. I cannot bear to think people excuse the slaughter of innocent children.

You must feel the same. Who are these brutes flying Hamas flags???

If they were up all the time as a sign of lovely ol’ Englande, fine. But they are popping up everywhere as a sign of “get out our country” by a load of willy waving racists.

People who have risked their lives don’t need that message.

People want to put them up on their own property for the love of Blighty ? Fine, you go for it. But not public places as a sign of hate. Not in my village.

Oh job on you bleeding heart !!

Willy wavers.. Grow Up

Why do you say that?

Because she's moaning about our country and blaming it on "the spiteful, destructive, hate-filled left" i.e. British people she disagrees with.

Britain isn't just her and her mates who "can feel their national identity being destroyed around them." I'm as British as she is, and I'm not moaning about our country. I love living here among my neighbours, family and friends. I don't feel a need to vandalise the local street furniture to show it.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 19/09/2025 15:46

its clear the Left in this country are starting to panic. For so long the rhetoric has been, look at this evil Tory Government, TWAW, beating people over the head with white privilege, be ashamed of Britain and being British (let’s all move to France). It’s now starting to crumble, the Labour Party are proving to be the shambles of a government we knew they would be, the courts have ruled for all relevant matters women are classified as such by their biology. Being are saying actually I’m proud to be British actually and proud of our history. France is being shown to have worse issues than us. The always ridiculous notion of white privilege is dead in the water.

In short, they’ve lost control of the narrative, they cried wolf too many times and they sowed the wind and now they’re reaping the whirlwind.
