I took down some flags and DH wasn’t happy

LittleChopper · 18/09/2025 23:13

On my commute today, I noticed someone had hung three large St George flags on a bridge coming out of our village. They have been popping up everywhere but this particular instance I thought “I’m not having that”. On the way home I pulled over and took them down.

when I got home and DH asked why I was binning three large flags I told him and he.. had some interesting opinions. He told me I shouldn’t be pissing off people in the village, that they have every right to hang an England flag in England, and that I’m being too political.

For a start, I would argue that I’ve always been quite strongly opinionated so he shouldn’t be surprised I did it.

Just as others have the right to their opinion I have mine. We have people in the village who are migrants… why should they have to look at that. It’s clear why they were hanging there given what’s going on at the moment and I’ve never see a flag hanging in the village in the decade we’ve been here so why else would they be there now.

I’m just so disappointed with it all. With the UK, with DH.

Next time maybe I’ll add to the collection instead. 🇬🇷🇮🇪🇮🇳🇦🇫🇧🇸🇵🇰🇪🇸🇸🇩🇿🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

She sounds like she loves it and wants to preserve it.

No, she sounds like she only wants to preserve it if it does exactly what she wants - if not, she won't lift a finger to help it. So patriotic.

It's my first home. I've never even visited my dad's home country (can't, really). Plenty of right wing people would definitely think I should go 'back' there though.

Tell me about all the people who come here and slaughter goats in their own back yards?

Ever been round the Soho Road area of Birmingham?

My ds was a police officer on that patch. Christ, the things he saw. And yes animals being slaughtered in back yards and being walked down the streets.

I will take no offence to all those who say bullshit. I know it’s hard to visualise, but it does happen.

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 19/09/2025 13:52

Do try to keep up with what you yourself have written! “I know I will continue putting them up wherever possible” - that’s a direct quote from you, so yes you are doing something. And you still haven’t answered why and what you hope it will achieve.

The only people this “national pride” is “cheering up” is the anti immigrant brigade. There are plenty of us who find it depressing- the opposite of cheerful. I don’t find my own country’s flag offensive in any way, so I don’t know why you’re asking me to explain why I do.

p.s. it’s there is frustration, not “their”. There’s a high correlation between the flag bearers and poor spelling and grammar. Funny, that.

Edited

I don’t think your dig at spelling and protestors supports your argument. Of course those are the people who don’t support immigration, they are the same people who feel the affects of this mass immigration. The wealthy who live in their enclaves of security are less likely to be opposed to immigration… I mean who else is going to clean your house?

OldOrMaybeNotThatOld · 19/09/2025 13:50

That was simply an example of being a good guest. I’m not looking for a fight.

The British were once a very proud nation who have overcompensated for the colonial wrongs of the past by completely allowing their immigrantion policy to dilute their identity. It is going to backfire monumentally if it hasn’t already.

Well, to be fair, if the British hadn't exported their language and culture to the whole of the rest of the world, we wouldn't have such an issue with immigration now that the rest of the world is becoming uninhabitable. You reap what you sow.

It’s what you meant though isn’t it?

Are benefits for white people only?

You’re not legally qualified to decide who is illegal and who isn’t.

If you want a gp appointment then stop supporting/ voting for governments that intend to sell the nhs off or run it further into the ground.

What I mean, is what I wrote.
There is no hidden agenda.

I will happily see any available GP regardless of what colour they are as long as they can treat me.

You obviously have a huge chip on your shoulder about being brown. That isn't anything to do with me so please stop trying to twist my words into a completely different meaning.

I don't recall saying what party I vote for so again I have no idea what you are talking about.

So one more time - if a person is good for the country (regardless of their colour) then yes we should let them in (much like Australia does with wanted skills)

If the person is bad for the country (regardless of their colour) we should not let them in cos the country is a)full and b) in a complete financial mess unable to deal with those already here.

Simple isn't it.

Of course multiculturalism is a strength. What are you on about? It's only people like you who don't get it.

You really don’t get it. Even with all the chaos and upheaval surrounding you, you still can’t see it. It’s amazing to think you cherish this ideal even when all the evidence is staring you in the face that it’s not working.

You won’t like what’s coming down the pipeline. Things are going to get much, much worse, sadly, and you can’t say you weren’t warned by others who can see it coming.

Do you want a pat on the back OP? Is this your way of letting us know how 'progressive' and cool and enlightened you are? Look at me, I'm so cool and progressive that I stand up to my bigoted husband. People are flying England flags not out of aggressive nationalism but in defence. They can feel their national identity being destroyed around them, and when they complain not only are they told to shut up they're told to 'celebrate'. Nobody voted for mass immigration or multiculturalism. They have been imposed on us by the spiteful, destructive, hate-filled left.

You and your little supporters on this thread better pray there is never another war OP. If Putin and China ever launch an invasion of Europe, then you'll get the flags out. You'll be waving the Union Jack and St George with all your might and begging the 'gammons' to go and defend you. Well, I wouldn't blame them if they told you to get lost. Who the hell is going to fight for a country that hates itself, has completely lost its identity and doesn't even want to wave its own flag? Now you are going to blab on about embracing a "progressive new identity". Let me save you the bother. You can go and fight for that new identity, because I won't be.

Do you not understand that the issue with small boats is a direct effect of Brexit? It didn’t happen before then. A lot of idiots did vote for Brexit at the urging of Farage et al. So yes, it was voted for.

I agree that previous invasions by Saxons, Vikings & Normans were not voted for.

However, the Windrush Generation were certainly invited. Likewise the many thousands of nurses recruited by the NHS from the Philippines & elsewhere.

I think it’s fairly obvious that people who fly Union Jacks to celebrate D-Day or royal jubilees & coronations are celebrating their country. Many people hang flags at their windows for big football matches. You are either lying or very stupid if you think this is the same. I haven’t seen any new flags flying on people’s own property (like you see in US), just the vandalism of public property. Racists the lot of them.

Anonymous23456 · 19/09/2025 14:00

Well done 👏

The whole thing really boils my piss.

This bullshit. Why does a flag offend you? It' offends me because its not about patriotism. It’s about racism, islamophobia and iignorance.

You don’t want foreigners here — but Britain once colonised a quarter of the world. In 1900, the British Empire controlled over 458 million people — most of them people of colour.

You took land, took resources, and brought it all back to Britain. Even today, the British Museum holds over 8 million objects, many taken from former colonies. But now, people like me are told we don’t belong.

My dad’s family were invited here, paid to come from a British colony to rebuild this country. And now? We’re told to “go back.”

I’ve been spat at. Called slurs. Had eggs thrown at my house. Is that patriotism?

So no — the flag doesn’t offend me.

But what it’s been used to represent? That does.

Real patriotism means facing your past, honouring all who built this country — and making sure everyone has a place in it.

Indeed. Pretty sure my comment pointing out that flying your own flag in your own country is never controversial unless you are under enemy occupation was also deleted.

It seems the anti white racists and Orwellian thought police are out in force.

Nope

the two times you said this still remain

Japan is being pressured to open their doors
to immigrants from India. I guess they forced South Korea and Taiwan to learn Japanese ….

Why should people fight and die for values they don’t hold, a nation that doesn’t support them and people who despise them?

Would you?

This was a great response by a Welsh person to the whole flag nonsense.

Flags, is it…?

I hope there were the various British flags amongst them because otherwise it kind of personifies the fears of Unite - being a minority in their own country without representation

What a ridiculous argument. History is there to be learnt from and not necessarily repeated. Many things come to mind. Two wrongs don’t make a right. An eye for an eye. The sins of the the father.

The perpetual cycle of the victim feeling victimized and looking outwardly for someone else to save them.

Perhaps if our culture is so unwanted around the globe, people could stop using it.

Let’s start with antibiotics 🙂

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 19/09/2025 14:11

Like many people on this tread i have no problem at all with flags being flown on peoples houses and in town centres and for special occasions

and flags hung on car doors and from windows and painted on houses etc

but painting public property is vandalism and people shouldn’t be flying flags without permission on public property either

Climate change activist and pro immigration… how surprising 😂

Marrrmite · 19/09/2025 14:15

I very often go out community litter picking. The flags are littering. It’s not good for the environment or local community to have all this plastic trash littering the place. They are polyester which isn’t biodegradable

Just to add. If climate change is a real concern then rising sea levels will either completely obliterate the little mud island we all live on and none of this will matter anyway or we are all going to scramble to the Lake District and then we will see what overcrowding looks like
