Feeling depressed due to some bad news. Am I going to be wrecked tomorrow? I did have a big lunch and dinner which should help somewhat.

I could do it in two hours easily! As a one off you'll be fine, as long as it's not every night

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 18/09/2025 20:46

Depends what your tolerance is like. That would floor me for the entire next day at least. I’d be very surprised if you avoided a hangover at all. We all have moments where we don’t make the best decisions, especially after bad news. Drink plenty of water before you go to bed. Have a bit more food if you can.

namechangeforthis81 · 18/09/2025 20:46

Thanks. I’m just so upset. Wanted to drown my sorrows. Appreciate it’s only a short term fix.

I’ve done a half a bottle in the same time - no excuse other than am enjoying watching Champions League football and my woodburner is on 😊

floppybit · 18/09/2025 20:48

Do you want to tell us about how you’re feeling? You can share your bad news if it would help

TheChosenTwo · 18/09/2025 20:49

I think I could probably do this in that time with a very nice bottle of valpolicella.
Although I drink water alongside my wine as it gives me a violent hangover otherwise!!
Get a couple of pints down you before bed and have an early night if you can.

TheChosenTwo · 18/09/2025 20:49

A couple of pints of water I mean, not wine!
and sorry you’re having a tough time 💐

Ineedanewsofa · 18/09/2025 20:50

Drink two pints of water, eat two pieces of toast and take two paracetamol before bed - as long as you don’t make a habit of it you’ll be ok. I’m sorry you had bad news, I hope tomorrow is brighter x

Birch101 · 18/09/2025 20:52

Decent amount of water and some food before bed.

Bideo · 18/09/2025 20:54

I'd feel bit jaded the morning after a whole bottle with food, but not "wrecked".

I would be concerned if I was drinking it alone and because I felt down though.

I’ve never had a hangover, even when I’ve been absolutely plastered.

I’d second the advice to eat some toast, OP. I hope you’re okay.

Agree with this but ibuprofen not paracetamol. Paracetamol and alcohol are both metabolised in the liver, therefore if you take paracetamol you liver has to get rid of the alcohol AND the paracetamol meaning your liver is dealing with 2 toxins. Ibuprofen is metabolised in the kidneys, meaning your liver only has to deal with alcohol. Most medical students would tell you to use ibuprofen (unless you have damaged kidneys!).

Shellyash · 18/09/2025 21:01

Slowcoach. What's the main?
Joking apart, no that's fine on a one off bad day. But hopefully life cheers up a bit for you. Xx

purplecorkheart · 18/09/2025 21:05

A fair bit will depend on how strong the wine is. 13.5% I think is on the higher end. Try eating something filling like carbs and drink water. Have a large bottle of the water by the side of your bed and have some if you walk in the night.

Thepeopleversuswork · 18/09/2025 21:08

As a rare thing with and with food I wouldn’t worry too much.

Partly depends on your age: in my 20s I could do this several times a week and barely feel it (no I’m not proud). Nowadays half that amount and I would feel ropey.

As long as you are not doing it regularly as a coping mechanism. Thats a different question altogether.

Walkingroundincircle22 · 18/09/2025 21:17

No, you'll be fine. Lots of water. Avoid paracetamol as it'll bother your liver after drinking. Get some sleep. Most people wouldn't think much of polishing off a bottle over an evening once a week, so don't worry yourself when you're obviously dealing with something.

Maybe talk to a friend tomorrow about your news so you don't turn to a drink to self medicate. Hope you are OK.

Sugargliderwombat · 18/09/2025 21:19

OP I'd have a nice hot or cold shower (if you can stand one) a banana and a big pink of water. I'm sorry for whatever bad news you've had, life can be really shit sometimes x

Minniliscious · 18/09/2025 21:24

I actually thought that you were going to boast about how you made a bottle last as long as 3 and a half hours 🫣 My bad …..

Nelly91 · 18/09/2025 21:29

Sadly I do the same far too often! I hope you’re okay OP. X

Crikeyalmighty · 18/09/2025 21:30

@ihavetocookagain blimey everdays a school day- I didn’t know that

TeenLifeMum · 18/09/2025 21:33

Drinking a bottle over that long isn’t a big deal, but drinking when you’re low is never a good idea. Get an early night. Everything is easier to face with sleep xx

buffyfaithfredwesley · 18/09/2025 21:46

You’ll be fine
I’m not advising it but after a horrendously bad work day I drank an entire bottle, from the bottle in the bath in about 30 mins Blush and smoked 10 cigs despite having given up years ago

namechangeforthis81 · 18/09/2025 21:48

Thanks for the replies. It’s a bereavement sadly. I just needed to escape temporarily.

@Minniliscious i also read the title and thought ‘oh, that’s a long time for one bottle’ 😂.

OP, you’ll be fine tomorrow. I usually avoid a hangover as long as I’ve had a good 8 hours sleep. Pint of water, bed, and you will be ok.

ETA. I’ve seen you’ve had a bereavement, sorry for your loss 💐
