Husbands never home for dinner

AIBU for being mad at the fact that my partner works all day from early morning till after 7.30 sometimes 8 he’s in construction and so hes never home for dinner or help out with the youngest of children with dinner and bedtime routines.

and to be fair I wouldn’t mind if he was making all the extra money so we could afford extra luxuries in life like a car fancy dinners day trips nice presents etc… But we barely get by to the point where I’m constantly borrowing from my parents…

it just doesn’t make sense anymore
because out of all the other mums I know I swear their husband are always home for dinner and it seems that I’m always struggling on my own 😫😫 doing it all alone.

anyone relates?

Not to be rude by I can not believe this… I have so many building sites around my house and it is a ghost town by 4pm…

There are so many different aspects of construction work that there are no ‘set hours’! Construction works on supermarkets? When do you think they take place? Usually on a night! That Matwell that you wipe your feet in on the way into a supermarket? When would that be replaced?! After the store closes on a night or after 4pm on a Sunday! You would be amazed at how much work gets done, not just planned, but reactive too, by construction workers outside normal working hours!

Ok! Ive worked in construction for 20yrs now on major projects in buildings and infrastructure. I’ve not worked in house building, but I struggle to see how people can meet programmes if they’re finishing at 1600! I’ve honestly never seen it and late working is much more common than finishing at 1800. I’m not sure where you live, and the projects you’re speaking about, but this is very uncommon!

Kind of missing the OPs post though.

The issue of when he is or isnt working (a lot of people do "work late", men and women, to avoid the dinner-bed-bath carnage) its the fact that he is never home claiming "work" but also not bringing enough money in to pay the bills.

So either he IS working those hours, which I agree is perfectly possible although I would say is unlikely given his area of work, in which case where the fuck is the money he should be bringing in? Or he ISNT working those hours, in which case where the fuck is he and what is he up to?!

OP where / when does he get paid? Does it go into a bank account, do you have access to that or does he give you money for the house / kids

Sorry that was just in reply to you that it’s perfectly likely, normal, and probable that these hours are worked for the job her partner does. If the OP and her partner don’t share finances, I’m not sure what else she can do apart from talk to him about it?

Sure but they don’t work 24/7 do they! My mate is a 4 days in 4 days off firefighter and on his days off he’s very much a hands on dad doing school runs, activities etc with his kids and spending time with his wife.
Almostnas if he likes them or something…

A common schedule for a firefighter includes 24hr or 48hr shifts.

The 4 days on 4 days off you describe isn’t a schedule I am familiar with.
