I realize it's a position of privilege to be able to think further ahead than my family's own day to day survival right now, but I'm starting to feel increasingly worried about the future of humanity and the world as we know it. If AI is going to take most of the jobs over the next few years and widespread unemployment and potentially civil unrest will ensue, then what is life going to look like? Added to this is the worry that we are rapidly barreling towards the point of no return on climate change.
I know I'm not having any original thoughts here, but I'm normally an optimistic, positive person and I currently can't help but feel afraid of what the future is going to be like for our children over the next ten to twenty years and beyond. I'm wondering if there's anything I can be doing now to help our family make it in the future! I'm not yet hoarding baked beans or building a bunker, but I'm definitely considering which countries might be safest to live in, whether it's a good idea to have land to be able to grow food and how to be as independent as possible e.g, solar and well etc. My eldest is thinking about what to study at university in a few year's time and I'm privately wondering if there will even be any jobs or if capitalism is going to completely collapse. Have I gone completely bonkers? Can anyone reassure me?
