So around 2 weeks ago I developed a few blisters on my hands and feet. Been burning the candle at both ends so just assumed I'd been working too hard.

Which then progressively got worse to the point I couldn't walk and if you touched a feather to my toe i would of cried. I've been crawling to the toilet and pissing myself in the process. FUN TIMES!

After 6 doctors and a multitude of nurses they still have no idea. I've had more blood taken than dracula would want and if you shook me right now I'd sound like a pill bottle. All tests/swabs coming back clear.

Basically been told it could be...
Allergic reaction
Bacterial
Viral
Autoimmune disease
Herpes
Syphillis
Eczema

You get the drift. Any ideas mumsnet? Im convinced it's chemical burns from changing my fish tanks that i stupidly done in my socks. I apologise if I put anyone off their dinner TIA x

Sorry no idea how I just posted a post again from days ago!

Are you any further @Thebibleofdave ????

I've been thinking about you?

As per PP private GP appointment but in my experience they aren't keen to touch anything too out of the ordinary so you might not get antibiotics that way.

Pharmacy might be the best port of call if you can't do the GP sit in.

I dont think there is anywhere you can buy antibiotics....they are restricted for good reason, even if the barriers to actually seeing a Dr make all reasoning go out the window.

Xo

Shoemadlady · 25/09/2025 14:13

You cannot buy antibiotics online. Call 111 or look for an out of hours dr and call them urgently. You can usually video call them so at least they could see and then they’ll prescribe something. However, how are you going to get out to get them? If you can collect them can you not get to see your own GP? I’d physically crawl there and sit in the waiting room until I’m seen if I were you

anyolddinosaur · 25/09/2025 14:46

Maybe try a pharmacist - or if you can afford it an online gp consultation.

If you cant afford either and cant get to a&e I'd try any moisturising cream you can lay your hands on or canestan or sudocrem. I'd probably try all 3 on different bits to see if anything helped. I might even try honey (natural antibiotic).

MolluscMonday · 25/09/2025 21:46

I have been thinking about you @Thebibleofdave ! Honestly, I think you need to go back to A&E or Urgent Care. Or I guess a private dermatologist, if you can afford one.

RJimLad · 25/09/2025 21:59

I had something like this where I had peeling hands and blisters all over my feet. I let the blisters go on for months before I went to see the docs. One would burst and peel and then there would be another one. I got to the point where it really hurt to walk.

The hands was definitely stress related excema. I can't remember what they said about the feet. The doc gave me a cream and they never came back.

I still get really itchy and peeling hands regularly and so use like a dermol cream to relieve it. It flares up every time I feel stressed.

RJimLad · 25/09/2025 22:05

I've just checked my medical records and it said the foot blisters were excema lesions.

I was prescribed:
Medication - Clobetasone 0.05% / Oxytetracycline 3% / Nystatin 100,000units/g cream - 30 gram - apply twice daily to foot

For hands: Medication - Dermol cream (Dermal Laboratories Ltd) - 500 gram - use as soap substitute

Longtallsally39 · 25/09/2025 22:12

Bullous pemphigoid? Looks similar. Hope you get relief soon! x

RJimLad · 25/09/2025 22:16

This was my foot but they got a lot worse than that. They'd go dark and scab over too.

Thebibleofdave · 26/09/2025 13:42

So the skin/blisters I've cut off are coming back. Still had no luck from GP as I keep getting referred back to dermatology. I've sent new photos over. Hoping to get some answers

I don't know if what I am about to say is of any use. But your hands in particular look absolutely identical to something my father had when he had a reaction to putting on one of our cats flea collars- 15-ish years ago. That was in Australia though. His skin came off like they were a glove would grow back then come off again.

It took years for it to be resolved. The medicos were at a complete loss. He's fine now but his hands have been permanently affected. He can use them for anything but fine motor work.

I hope so much you get it resolved.

FeralWoman · 08/10/2025 13:33

That’s ridiculous that you couldn’t get a diagnosis or better treatment. It looked so sore and so open to infection.

Sadly I’m not surprised that dermatology let you down based on my DH’s experience with multiple dermatologists for a skin condition, and that’s in a different country and all private dermatologists. All they seem to offer are antibiotics, steroid cream or antifungal cream. That’s it. And of course the ever helpful don’t scratch it and make sure you moisturise, even after telling them multiple times that it’s not itchy and moisturising makes it worse.

Those latest pics look like dyshidrotic eczema (phompholyx). I suffer from this occasionally (and not nearly so severely!) when under stress - it gets the hands and feet.
When I was researching it, I did read about someone who had a v severe case where the blisters turned purple -they're normally like little fluid filled blisters under the skin, which then break out and cause the peeling.
You have my deepest, deepest sympathies if it is this- it's maddeningly itchy/painful - and mine just looks like tiny bumps - so I can't imagine how bad you're feeling...

If its this it's an absolute bastard to get rid of. I found Hydromol Intensive 10% urea to be the best moisturiser. High urea content basically.

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 08/10/2025 16:39

@Feralwoman How is you DH now? Xxx

He’s okay, thanks for asking. He was finally diagnosed by other specialists as having a very rare autoimmune condition and has weekly autoimmune therapy. His skin has vastly improved. It can still flare up into a sore, stinky, weeping mess of sores though if he misses a dose or has something irritate his body like antibiotics or a vaccination.

Have you considered asking about a referral to a Tropical Diseases specialist? They’re probably more likely to recognise what’s happening with your skin if it’s related to fish/exotic water creatures. Have a search of the internet to see if there’s a Tropical Diseases unit at a hospital near you. Maybe try their A&E or ask your GP for a referral.

Fiftyandme · 08/10/2025 17:51

Is it just your hands and feet? Nowhere else?

Have you taken any new medications such as antibiotics, anti convulsants, antivirals, NSAIDs?

Fiftyandme · 08/10/2025 17:55

Ah, didn't see the original date.

I was going for possible SJS.

And learned about a new disorder in the process.

Glad you’re on the mend

Thebibleofdave · 09/10/2025 10:12

@Fiftyandme I havnt even had a paracetamol since childhood so no new medication. I did have quincy about 5 years ago (which i thought was a 1980's detective series) I had antibiotics for but other than that nothing since childhood
