So around 2 weeks ago I developed a few blisters on my hands and feet. Been burning the candle at both ends so just assumed I'd been working too hard.

Which then progressively got worse to the point I couldn't walk and if you touched a feather to my toe i would of cried. I've been crawling to the toilet and pissing myself in the process. FUN TIMES!

After 6 doctors and a multitude of nurses they still have no idea. I've had more blood taken than dracula would want and if you shook me right now I'd sound like a pill bottle. All tests/swabs coming back clear.

Basically been told it could be...
Allergic reaction
Bacterial
Viral
Autoimmune disease
Herpes
Syphillis
Eczema

You get the drift. Any ideas mumsnet? Im convinced it's chemical burns from changing my fish tanks that i stupidly done in my socks. I apologise if I put anyone off their dinner TIA x

are they tropical fish?

if so it could be fish tank granuloma

Thebibleofdave · 19/09/2025 15:22

@MolluscMonday Thank you for checking in! I've had a pain of a day. The dermatologist doctor that has seen me before only works on a Friday until 3. 50 phone calls and 3 voicemails for a call back and nothing.

My GP is down today apparently so can't send photos over even not asking for an appointment...told try again Monday.

Im waiting for a call back from 111 to try and get seen by out of hours GP. We shall see.

Pp's have suggested A&E...I've already done this 10 days ago after the blisters were so painfull I couldn't walk. Seen triage. They sent me to another department for bloods/swabs. They then sent me to another department for more blood/swabs. All clear. They then sent me to podiatry....who's then referred me to dermatology at a different hospital.

I'd feel bloody awful taking up a space in A&E yet again for the same outcome. My local hospital does their best and I don't want to take up even more of their time. Its average 4 hour wait time for an ambulance in my area atm. And I feel fine from hands and feet up atleast for now!

And just to say thank you all again for your input. I really do appreciate it! Writing all your suggestions down and giving myself the absolute horrors on Google!

Thinking of you @Thebibleofdave any improvement?

clinellwipe · 22/09/2025 17:00

I haven’t read the replies and I’m sure someone has already suggested this but, fish tank granuloma/mycobacterium marinum? Would be interested in an update OP! Hope it gets better asap

Iceplanet · 22/09/2025 17:09

Palmer plantar psoriasis?

Thebibleofdave · 22/09/2025 22:14

Good evening to you all! Thank you for thinking of me! Well I have no update on a diagnosis as im still getting passed piller to post today.

Update on my feet is WTAF IS THIS?!? Only way I can describe is that I've shed like a snake?? There was a very dry bit of skin after I very cleverly done a salt soak that I very cleverly decided to Stanley blade down the middle and when I say an entire 'cast' of my foot came away im not exaggerating. The toes I can only describe like cracking a king prawns head off. Again FUN TIMES.

The skin underneath 'looks' healthy but my good God it's red raw and I think more blisters are forming. The skin is coming off up to my ankles now where it was mainly from my heels up. I attempted to get antibiotics off the doctor to no avail. Dermatologist asked me how to spell pp's suggestions to 'look them up' refusing a follow up appointment and to 'see how it goes'. FML

And sorry for banging on its just threads like this might be helpful for others!

I think that look like either bullous pemphigoid or pemphigus vulgaris. Both auto immune diseases. You need to see someone as a matter of urgency as it can be very serious.

Shoemadlady · 22/09/2025 22:31

someone I know had pemphigus vulgaris and it can spread very quickly which you’ve said it’s now spreading in your legs. I think you should go to A&E.

WeightLossGoal2024 · 22/09/2025 22:48

I think you need A&E again! It looks and sounds so painful

mamagogo1 · 22/09/2025 22:54

Whilst it isn’t as bad as your feet, I have caused blisters on my hands from fabric glue - I should have thoroughly washed them after use or worn gloves, did neither and had been pretty messy applying it. A week later and I have shed a layer of skin and it’s fine underneath

Thebibleofdave · 22/09/2025 23:02

@Shoemadlady thank you for your response! I feel im just getting fobbed off left, right and centre. Because im giving the suggestions pp's have said i swear i can hear them eye roll me over the phone! It must be infuriating for a doctor to get told 'what it might be' but if they don't know you would think they would take it on board?? Fact I've been in the sea, have fish tanks etc FML

OP presumably you can’t work- can your OH dept do something or do you have health insurance through work?

LuckyShark · 22/09/2025 23:22

Go to A&E and refuse to move - insist on seeing someone who has a clue

There is obviously something very wrong with your hands and feet....please stop home remedies too🙏

I had similar but different, out of the blue my ears turned necrotic and bits were falling off them. GP had no clue after repeated visits. Kept being sent to A&E where I was foisted from one department to another for weeks

Drs looked and spoke to me as if I were insane as literally parts of my ears were falling off.

Turned out I was incredibly ill and eventually one Dr who passed me in a corridor (as I was cry arguing politely with another Dr that I wasnt having anymore crap cream to apply) knew what it was and admitted me.

Had he not I would have become very disabled. I SHOULD have fought for myself and I didnt. Please don't do the same thing I did out of politeness/its only your hands and feet (its your bloody hands and feet!!!), respect for the NHS etc etc etc

Get snacks, a pillow, a phone charger and settle in. No answers and you aren't leaving

TrousersOfTime · 22/09/2025 23:32

I agree with PP - your condition has changed since you were last seen and whatever it is has spread.

Make sure you strongly emphasise that you've been in touch with polluted seawater. Also mention if you've been under an unusual amount of stress (as that increases the risk of autoimmune conditions).

Unfortunately there are some conditions that are so rare most doctors have never seen them, and this can make diagnosis tricky, but even if they can't work out what it is straight away, those symptoms need managing.

Thebibleofdave · 23/09/2025 12:06

@LuckyShark Oh my goodness. How are you doing now? You sound like an absolute trooper to go through that and come out the other side. I take my hat off to you!

I'd love to do a sit in up A&E until I get some answers but it's physically impossible for me. I care for my nearly completely blind & deaf/sometimes psychotic/disabled mother. And understandably I can't get anyone else to sit with her even never mind timed medication she has to take. All other family have died so it's only me left. Wouldn't have it any other way mind you...that woman is my hero!

I've already been sacked from one job as I can't pour drinks from the floor and God knows if this is contagious anyhow.

Thank God my other 2 employer's are a bit more understanding! Im on zero hour contracts for everything so don't get sick pay etc I have no option to go back to work ASAP with cost of living...i live pay check to pay check as it is.

But we move! Not very quickly right now but onwards and upwards!

The thing im most alarmed about is trying to get antibiotics (which i can't buy online...I've tried) I don't live in a fantastic 'naice' area but for the love of christ I could get crack cocaine if I asked in 10 minutes...doctor is just fobbing me off!

Im doing much better, finally. Thank you!

I do really feel for you - I have felt "trapped" by expectation and needs of others and its incredibly hard to put yourself first. But unfortunately that only added to the problem.

If you can't camp in a&e, can you at least try refusing to move from the GPs until one of them will give you antibiotics? They should get fed up of their practice manager before you run out of time.

Im so sorry for the situation you are in....it feels impossible. As above PP said autoimmune disease is often caused by serious stress (mine was a v weird autoimmune + stress) and your life sounds very hard atm.

Please try and put yourself FIRST....if not you can't be any use to anyone, or work any of your jobs.

Life is really tough....but you deserve care, and you have to take life by the ovaries and make it happen....please please do xxxxx

Thebibleofdave · 25/09/2025 09:33

Don't know if anyone is still invested but for the love of God i still can't get antibiotics....im pulling my fecking hair out here. Does anyone know a site I can buy some from? I think it's gotta to be fish tank granuloma or vibrio...both treatments are the same

Been following this @Thebibleofdave- think you’ve been very brave. I thought it was VV as a PP said after seeing it on Monsters Inside Me - the parasite programme. I don’t live in the UK but have googled & there are lots of online docs who can prescribe antibiotics after a video consult. They’ll email you a prescription & you just take that to the chemists. This one has decent reviews & a helpful site about different antibiotics. Think a consult might be about £50 ish - they vary a bit. Best of luck - I hope you get sorted.

spongebunnyfatpants · 25/09/2025 10:54

If I were you, I'd be going down to the doctors, taking my shoes and socks off and putting my feet up on the seats until I got some proper medical attention and medication.

You're being treated appallingly op.

Have you tried going to the pharmacy? Our pharmacist is very good at marching round to the doctors with you, if he thinks you need attention and you're not getting it.

GallifreyGirl · 25/09/2025 11:06

I googled rare disease centres. There’s a few in UK. I know it may not be ‘rare’ but obviously unusual enough for Dr to be stumped. A lot of the things others have said need treatment like now. I don’t know where you are in UK but could be worth a call or email. You need a Dr House type who’s interested. Just a thought. Good luck
