So around 2 weeks ago I developed a few blisters on my hands and feet. Been burning the candle at both ends so just assumed I'd been working too hard.

Which then progressively got worse to the point I couldn't walk and if you touched a feather to my toe i would of cried. I've been crawling to the toilet and pissing myself in the process. FUN TIMES!

After 6 doctors and a multitude of nurses they still have no idea. I've had more blood taken than dracula would want and if you shook me right now I'd sound like a pill bottle. All tests/swabs coming back clear.

Basically been told it could be...
Allergic reaction
Bacterial
Viral
Autoimmune disease
Herpes
Syphillis
Eczema

You get the drift. Any ideas mumsnet? Im convinced it's chemical burns from changing my fish tanks that i stupidly done in my socks. I apologise if I put anyone off their dinner TIA x

Phytotoxic reaction? Have you been gardening barefoot recently?

Thebibleofdave · 18/09/2025 15:51

Thank you so so much everyone! Im writing down all these things I can't pronounce to take to my next appointment. I appreciate you all immensely 🤗

@Harriet9955 @Thebibleofdave actually you mentioning pemphigold reminded me of a pemphigus patient we had many years ago and it does resemble that!! In his own sideroom at the window, we had a decompression chamber for him to go into for treatment every day!!

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 18/09/2025 16:45

@Thebibleofdave I honestly cannot see any chemicals you would be using in fish tanks which would cause that skin condition. water and perhaps sodium chloride if it is a marine tank. even if you were treating all your fish for some disease, you would never use the quantities of chemicals needed to cause this/

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 18/09/2025 16:56

Have you asked ChatGPT? I know some people don’t agree with it but it can be quite helpful.

Myfluffyblanket · 18/09/2025 17:07

Blimey OP, that looks horrible.
Fishtank tapsafe and bio starter additives can be irritants but not to that extent.
I hope you get a diagnosis and effective tx quickly.

LakieLady · 18/09/2025 17:15

That looks awful and uncomfortable OP.

I don't think it's pompholyx though. I had that on my hands a few years ago, and the blisters were small and cleared up quickly with a bit of steroid cream.

MsWilmottsGhost · 18/09/2025 17:26

Has the doctor sent swabs for microbiology testing?

I'm a microbiologist and immediately thought, ooh infection from fishy water, that's definitely Vibrio vulnificus...

(don't look if you are squeamish!)

One of my sisters had something very similar years ago. I've sent the pics over to her and asked does it look the same and what was it as I've forgotten..... I remember her palms and soles of feet were peeling in sheets and she had purple blotches.

I'll tell you what she says

Edited

OK sis has replied that she had Pomphloxy Eczema but it wasn't as bad as yours

Thebibleofdave · 18/09/2025 17:29

@Lakielady We're you given Amy of these creams?

@Mswilmottsghost You might be bloody on to somthing here! Thank you all again I really appreciate your input! Shall book another appointment first thing. Again i know it's not ideal to ask for medical advice off the Internet but I've had more advice from mumsnet than the hospital so again THANK YOU ALL!!!

Good luck Dave 😊

If you Google it the online pics looks very much like your infection, beware though some are much worse 😬

GPs might not have heard of it, so go armed with some print outs, or get them to Google the pics and compare to yours.

MolluscMonday · 18/09/2025 17:58

Google seems to suggest vibrio vulnificus is A&E worthy and requires IV antibiotics. It looks horrifically sore OP. I hope you get it reviewed ASAP.

MsWilmottsGhost · 18/09/2025 18:16

Yes it can be serious so don't delay

Thebibleofdave · 18/09/2025 18:55

Well im not sure I've done the right thing here but Ive done a salt foot soak before I apply the plethora of creams I've been given now it looks a bit dry😬

OP posts:
Thebibleofdave · 18/09/2025 18:57

Ah God...now it's burning

@Thebibleofdave youve had some pretty good advice and if correct you need to be reviewed in A&E. Those wounds are a ripe breeding ground for some hideous infections. Print off the information and go.

Best of luck.

anyolddinosaur · 18/09/2025 19:40

Maybe contact this group to ask for suggestions https://www.ichthyosis.org.uk/ichthyosis-and-epidermal-differentiation-disorders-what-the-new-term-means-for-you

plantar keratoderma on the feet looks like your pictures.

Dermol is a moisturiser, I'm afraid a salt soak would make things worse, wash any remaining salt off before applying the creams.

Wrongthings · 18/09/2025 20:26

Holy forkballs - I really hope you’re at A&E now OP

That totally matches up as vibrio infection from contact with coastal waters.

If you’ve not gone yet, please go now and don’t leave until they’ve tested for that specific infection.

And not to be alarmist, but also look up symptoms of septicaemia and share that with anyone with you, to keep an eye on you.

Hiptothisjive · 18/09/2025 21:47

Sorry if this has been suggested - but seriously bad case of hand foot and mouth?

MousseMousse · 18/09/2025 23:06

Oh god a salt soak?!
Run it under cool water for 20 minutes, in the shower ideally (which is first aid for a chemical burn & should flush away the salt).

Please just crawl off to a&e op!

Icouldabeenalawyer · 18/09/2025 23:36
