Buying/wearing maternity jeans when not pregnant?

My youngest child is 6, I will not be having any more. I am overweight, but not massively, I'm a size 16/18. However, any jeans I buy just do not fit, they are fine when I'm standing up, slightly loose even, but as soon as I sit down they are unbearable, not just slightly uncomfortable but actually painfully digging in. I do have adenomyosis/Endo which does make me bloated and probably doesn't help the situation. If I was to get jeans in a bigger size they would literally be falling down when I'm standing/walking. So I have been looking at maternity jeans, would it be really weird if I bought them? Or shall I just go for it?

No, that’s fine. Plus the band bit would be covered by your top so who would even know?

ObtuseMoose · 17/09/2025 11:08

If they fit nicely and you like them I don't see that it matters if they're maternity jeans.

CinnamonBuns67 · 17/09/2025 11:09

If it's makes you more comfortable then go for it

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 17/09/2025 11:10

Not weird at all. I had a fab pair of maternity jeans in the early stages that looked like normal jeans, but just had more give at the front, they were really comfy.

I've bought tops from charity shop not realising until later they were maternity ones! I still wore them, who cares?

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 17/09/2025 11:20

It's your body, your clothes and your money, you can buy anything you want to wear. Sounds like a good idea to me if it makes you more comfortable.

I'd love to know who has voted that you're being unreasonable, and what their reasoning is.

I wear maternity jeans to eat Christmas dinner 🙃

I've got maternity pyjamas, they're the dog's in terms of comfort! Go for it, why the hell not? Seems ideal for your situation

BaronessBomburst · 17/09/2025 14:13

I still wear my maternity tights. They're the most comfortable pair I've ever had. They have a proper gusset and don't cut in around the waist. What's not to love!

Thanks all, I'm gonna get some ordered.

I have a maternity dress I still wear to work (from 10 years ago!)
It's so comfortable and doesn't jab in at my waist when Sitting at my desk.
Go for it !

Have you tried jeans in a tall size? I’m only 5’7” but I’m high-waisted, tall trousers fit much better in the waist, bum and crotch (but often need hemming).

I myself have bought maternity clothes, I'm 56,carry my weight round my middle mainly, and totally agree with you on the can't size up,will be too big.A stretchy panel at the front is great! Don't feel silly about it,I'm sure loads of people do it,and especially with your health issues ,makes total sense and a great solution!
